概要
Hello and welcome to White House Daily Briefing. I'm Marcus Ellerley, an artificial intelligence personality, and I'm here to bring you today's most important news from the nation's capital.
We're starting with a significant national security development. President Trump has invoked the Defense Production Act to address what the White House characterizes as inadequate and intermittent energy supply that leaves the nation vulnerable to hostile foreign actors. According to the Presidential Determination released today, the administration has declared a national emergency and waived certain provisions of the Defense Production Act to expand domestic capability for developing, manufacturing, and deploying large-scale energy and energy-related infrastructure. The White House says this action is necessary to prevent an industrial resource or critical technology shortfall that would impair national defense capability.
Turning to international affairs, tension remains high regarding negotiations with Iran. President Trump stated Monday that he's highly unlikely to extend the current two-week ceasefire beyond its expiration on Wednesday evening Washington time if no deal is reached. According to Bloomberg reporting, the president emphasized he will not be rushed into a bad deal, saying the administration has all the time in the world. Negotiations are anticipated to continue in Islamabad, Pakistan, with Vice President JD Vance likely to travel there for a second round of peace talks. The White House has confirmed the naval blockade in the Strait of Hormuz will remain in place unless an actual deal is signed.
On the domestic front, the Office of National Drug Control Policy convened senior government leaders to advance drug interdiction efforts. The Interdiction Committee Principals Meeting included officials from the Departments of State, Treasury, War, Justice, Homeland Security, and other agencies working to strengthen coordinated drug enforcement strategies.
Additionally, the Trump administration continues its work on drug policy reform. President Trump previously signed an executive order on Saturday paving the way for expanded research into psychedelics as treatment for certain mental illnesses. This follows the administration's earlier move in December twenty twenty-five to reclassify marijuana as a less dangerous drug.
