Hey there, I'm Julia Cartwright, and I'm so glad you're here. If you're tuning in on a Thursday morning like this, I'm guessing your nervous system might be running just a little bit faster than you'd like it to. That's what I'm hearing from everyone right now—that creeping tension that builds throughout the week. Today, we're going to hit pause together, and I promise it's going to feel like the best decision you've made all day. Find yourself somewhere you can sit comfortably, even if it's just for the next few minutes. Your couch, a chair, the floor—anywhere that feels like home. Let your shoulders drop away from your ears and take a moment to acknowledge that you showed up for yourself right now. That matters. I want you to start by taking three intentional breaths. Not the breathing you do on autopilot. This is different. Breathe in slowly through your nose like you're smelling fresh bread cooling on a windowsill. Hold it for just a beat. Then exhale through your mouth like you're gently fogging a mirror. One more time. In through the nose. Out through the mouth. Feel that? Now we're going to do something I call the Anchor and Release. This is my favorite technique when relaxation feels just out of reach. Here's what we're doing: as you breathe naturally, I want you to mentally scan your body from the top of your head down to your toes. But this time, you're not judging or fixing anything. You're just noticing. Notice where you feel tightness like a guitar string pulled taut. Don't change it yet. Just acknowledge it. Maybe your jaw is clenched. Maybe your lower back is tight. Say hello to those spots like you're greeting an old friend. Now, with each exhale, imagine those tight spots softening like ice cream melting in the sun. Not dramatically. Just gently releasing. Your shoulders, your neck, the space between your eyebrows. Let them thaw, bit by bit. There's no rush here. We've got time. The beautiful thing about relaxation is that it's not something you have to earn or achieve. It's your natural state when you stop fighting against yourself. You're not creating relaxation. You're removing the barriers to it. Here's what I want you to do today: pick one moment—maybe it's your morning coffee, or a five minute walk—and give it the Anchor and Release treatment. Just that one moment of intentional softening. That's your practice. Thank you so much for spending this time with me on the Relaxation podcast.
