  • Thread: Future of BC // Volume 1 - The BC Liberals // Renee Merrifield - Ep.004
    2022/01/29

2020 brought many things. It also brought a snap election to BC. The BC Liberal Party faced a substantial reduction in their seat count, their membership, and their good-will with the people of BC.

Fast forward to late 2021 and the party is in the midst of a Leadership Race to determine the next leader of their party, and their vision for the future of British Columbia.

We sat down with some of the candidates running and asked them the questions that were top-of-mind for other GenZ.

In this conversation, we connect virtually with Renee Merrifield. Renee was elected MLA for Kelowna-Mission in 2020. She previously served as the Official Opposition critic for Health. She’s a dedicated public leader who has effectively led with results in her community, province, and nation for the last 20 years. She is an entrepreneur employing 50 people in the construction industry. Renee also served as an executive member, on the Westbank First Nation Economic Development Commission board, Canada’s first First Nation Economic Development Council, from 2008-2011.

Thread is for those who desire nuanced conversations on complex topics. We produce Threads to create space for dialogue and the free exchange of ideas. We believe GenZ isn’t disengaged because they're indifferent about the world, but because there isn't a place to engage in conversation without extreme polarization.

In this conversation, we sat down with Gavin Dew. Gavin is a seasoned entrepreneur, business leader, and community builder. In parallel to his own small businesses and his work with major companies, Gavin has served in volunteer board and committee roles with organizations such as the Business Council of British Columbia, the Greater Vancouver Board of Trade, and many more. He’s worked over the last 15 years to build up the next generation of business, political, and community leaders. He has developed mentorship and career programs and built an extensive network in the new industries growing our economy. In 2018, he launched a non-partisan organization dedicated to engaging and electing a new generation of political leaders, equipping him well to find, recruit, and prepare strong BC Liberal candidates for the next election.
