  • Who Do You Say He Is?
    2025/06/30

I greet you in Jesus’ precious name! It is Monday morning, the 30th of June, 2025, and this is your friend, Angus Buchan, with a thought for today.

    We start in Luke 9:20:

“He said to them, “But who do you say that I am?”

Then we go to John 6:69:

”Also we have come to believe and know that You are the Christ, the Son of the living God.”

The disciples had no doubt whatsoever about who Jesus Christ was. They knew that He wasn’t just a good man, they knew that He wasn’t just a prophet. They knew that He was Emanuel, God with us. Who do you say He is today? And that is critical for your Christian walk. You cannot serve two masters, either you serve God, or you serve the devil. Matthew 12:30, Jesus said:

“He who is not with Me is against Me, and he who does not gather with Me scatters abroad.”

When it comes to the holiness and the deity of God, there can be no excuse. Either Jesus Christ is the Son of God or He is not, and if He is not, you cannot call yourself a Christian. We are believers, not even by what we read but what we believe. You see, there was no-one else who has ever raised a man from the dead - Lazarus, after he had been dead for four days in the grave. In the Middle East the body has already started to decompose.

There is no man in history who has ever walked on top of the water and right across the Lake of Galilee, 21 km long and 13 km wide. He walked on top of the water. I want to tell you today, for me, Jesus Christ is the Miracle-Worker, but more than all of that, personally, He is a friend who sticks closer than a brother. Every hardship, trial, tribulation that I have been, and am still going through, I can manage only because of the grace of God who says, “I will never leave you and I will never forsake you.

Today, be decisive because I want to tell you, He is the only one who can really help you, and He is more than willing.

Jesus bless you and and have a wonderful day,
    Goodbye.

  • Look to the Lord
    2025/06/29

I greet you in Jesus’ precious name! It is the 29th of June, 2025, and this is your friend, Angus Buchan, with a thought for today.

I am sitting, looking into the most beautiful picture, the mighty Drakensberg Mountains, which run on the western side of our beloved South Africa and Kwazulu-Natal. There is only one Scripture that comes to mind that I want to share with you today, and it is found in Psalm 121:1-2:

“I to the hills will lift my eyes —
    From whence comes my help?
My help comes from the Lord,
    Who made heaven and earth.

Now, I quoted that Scripture on purpose because if we don’t think very carefully about it, it looks like we are saying our strength and our health come from the mountains, but they don’t come from the mountains. They come from the One who made the mountains, namely our beloved God and Saviour, Jesus Christ. You see, the Scripture goes like this:

I to the hills will lift mine eyes?
Where does my help come from?
My help cometh from the Lord
    Who made heaven and earth

I want to ask you a question this morning, because I have time to meditate, looking at these beautiful blue mountains, partially covered in cloud. Where are you putting your strength? Where are you putting your hope? Is it in the government? Is it in the weather? Is it in the economic situation? Is it in your own physical wellbeing? If it is, you are going to be sorely disappointed in the future.

Our hope comes from God alone. The Bible says,

“If God is for us, no man will stand against us.” Romans 8:31.

Today, looking at these majestic mountains that were formed with one word - that’s what He said - I know again that my strength and my help comes from the One who created those beautiful mountains.

Today, remember, keep your eyes fixed on Jesus Christ and not even on the mountains!

God bless you and have a wonderful day,
    Goodbye.

  • Discipline
    2025/06/28

I greet you in Jesus’ precious name! It is Saturday morning, it’s the 28th of June, 2025, and this is your friend, Angus Buchan, with a thought for today.

We start in 1 Corinthians 9:27. The Apostle Paul says:

“But I discipline my body and bring it into subjection, lest, when I have preached to others, I myself should become disqualified.”

Oh folks, you and I really need to walk the talk, don’t we? People need to see Jesus in us. There is no use in “dropping the ball” every time. I am thinking about ordinary common things like your language. As a follower of Christ, you may not swear anymore. You know I had a terrible vocabulary because when I got uptight as a farmer, I would curse and I would blaspheme, but the amazing thing is, the day that I gave my life to Jesus Christ, I have never sworn since that day. That’s a miracle. I have shouted a lot, but I have never, ever blasphemed. We need to conduct our behaviour which is befitting for a Christian.

We cannot just do our own thing and say “Well, that’s the way I am.” No, we have got to change because people are watching every single move we make. Paul says that is why he disciplines his body and brings it into subjection. You can’t stand up in church with your hands in the air and praise God, and then go out and get blind drunk on Friday night and say, “Well, I am under pressure. I just wanted to get a bit of a release.” You can’t do that. That’s what keeps people out of the church. That is what keeps people from following Jesus.

I used to say the same thing in the old days before I met the Lord. I would see some men who would tell me they are Christians, but then their lifestyle was pathetic. They couldn’t feed their children, they didn’t love their wives, and yet they were telling me to get my life in order, and I used to say to Jill, “If that man is a Christian, I will get to Heaven before he will.” But you see, I made a big mistake. Who said he was a Christian? He said he was, but on the day of judgement each one of us will have to give an account of our conduct. Let us start to discipline our bodies, our minds and our hearts, so that people will come to us and say, “I want what you’ve got.” And we will say, “What have we got?” “I see peace, I see love, I see acceptance, I see patience, I see Jesus in you.” Let's do it today.

Jesus bless you and have a wonderful day,
    Goodbye.
