This Movie Deserves Better is for the movies that got done dirty. The sequels, the slashers, the weird little thrillers that critics shrugged off but you couldn’t stop thinking about. We’re here to rewatch, reframe, and rant—sometimes seriously, sometimes not. Expect scene dissections, thematic rabbit holes, and the occasional defence of whatever sequel, slasher, or thriller deserves a second look . Because sometimes, the cult classics haven’t been crowned yet.Col Swash アート

  • THESE Movies Deserve Better - 20th Episode Bonanza
    2026/08/06

This week is something different. No single film. No full breakdown. No awards segment. Instead — twenty horror films that deserve better, grouped into four categories and defended with absolutely no apologies.

Deep cut sequels nobody goes to bat for. Reboots and remakes that got a raw deal. Underseen gems that almost nobody talks about. And big budget horror that got buried under expectation and bad timing.

Plus listener picks from some of you lot who actually have great taste.

Twenty episodes in and the list of movies that deserve better keeps growing.

    Thank you. Sincerely.

  • Event Horizon (1997) - The Greatest Sci-fi Horror Nobody Has Seen
    2026/07/23

This episode is dedicated to Sam Neill, who passed away recently.

Event Horizon is one of his finest and most overlooked performances. A film that got destroyed on release in 1997, written off almost immediately, and has spent nearly thirty years slowly becoming one of the most beloved cult films in science fiction horror.

This week we cover the full history of one of the most troubled productions of the 1990s — the Titanic connection that rushed everything, the thirty minutes of footage found in a Transylvanian salt mine that can never be restored, the hell orgy sequence that test audiences couldn't handle, and the version of this film that existed before Paramount got involved and is now gone forever.

Full plot breakdown, what was lost, where it stumbles, and the full case for why Event Horizon deserved better than August 1997 and a 36% on Rotten Tomatoes.

Plus — instead of the usual awards this week — my top 5 Sam Neill performances. Because one episode wasn't enough.

    For Sam Neill. Rest easy.

  • Stir of Echoes (1999) - The Kevin Bacon Horror Movie You Slept On
    2026/07/09

This week we're covering Stir of Echoes (1999) — David Koepp's criminally underrated supernatural horror film starring Kevin Bacon in one of the best performances of his career.

We dig into why this film got completely overshadowed on release (hint: it came out the same summer as The Sixth Sense), what makes its hypnosis sequence one of the most effective in horror, where the film stumbles, and why — twenty-plus years later — it deserves so much better than being a footnote to another ghost movie.

If you want the spoiler-free case for this one first, check out my article in the latest issue of AFH (@wellthatsucksreviews).

New episode every two weeks — defending overlooked and underrated horror, one movie at a time.
