The running CPAP that proved he didn't leave on his own
In this episode, we follow the sequence of discoveries investigators made after Ralph Tucker went missing: the empty truck, a diner receipt for two coffees, a fisherman finding a body, and an impossible-running medical device in a sealed building. How do those scenes connect, and what do they say about the moments before he disappeared?
Person: Ralph Tucker
Date: April 5-9 (disappearance noted April 6; pump-house found April 9)
Location: Crossroads Fuel and Fuel parking lot; Arroyo Seco reservoir; pump-house
Status: Missing then found body; pump-house padlocked from outside with no power
Witness: Sandra Phelps (diner attendant), noted a second heavyset man in a dark quilted work jacket
- Ralph, a 63-year-old retired long-haul trucker who drove Thursdays to see his sister for eleven years, didn’t show up on his routine visit.
- He was last seen at Crossroads Fuel around 10:15 pm on April 5; a receipt shows two coffees though only one customer was logged.
- His pickup was found unlocked at about 6:00 am on April 6 with wallet on the passenger seat, key in the cupholder, and his phone missing but no signs of struggle.
- A fisherman untangled and recovered a body in the Arroyo Seco reservoir one mile-plus from the diner; investigators later found a pump-house with a running CPAP inside.
- The pump-house was padlocked from the outside, had no active electrical service, yet the CPAP’s motor was cycling and its humidifier was dry-an image police called inexplicable at first glance.
