The keycard timestamp that showed Hayes never left the building
In this episode, we follow the timeline and records that shifted a homicide probe from a workplace supervisor to an HVAC technician. What evidence and gaps in logs led Detective Kathleen Sheridan to reframe the case and pursue Hayes?
Person: Heather Powell
Date: July 8, 2021
Location: 412 Sycamore Terrace, Dellbrook
Person: Jason Hayes
Event: Calloway keycard badge-out at 3:44 PM on July 8, 2021
- A leather day-planner mailed two years later arrived with a blue ballpoint note on July 9, 2021: “Biscuit - six PM.”
- Biscuit, Heather’s diabetic cat, required insulin at 6:15 AM and 6:15 PM and was found fed when Melissa Dempsey discovered the body at 8:22 AM.
- Hayes worked as a contracted HVAC technician through Calloway’s wellness program and had been inside Heather’s house previously.
- Calloway’s keycard logs show Hayes badged out at 3:44 PM despite his shift ending at noon and no afternoon work order assigned.
- A neighbor’s Ring camera recorded a truck matching Hayes’s registration driving slowly past 412 Sycamore Terrace at 9:20 PM the night of July 8, 2021.
