What does it take to turn an entire city back to God—and what happens when the next generation forgets? In Lesson 6 of The Word of the Lord Came, Rob Pine pairs two Minor Prophets who both deliver prophecy about the same city: Nineveh, the powerful capital of the Assyrian Empire. Together, Jonah and Nahum tell one of the most sobering stories in all of Scripture.

Jonah's message sparked the greatest revival recorded in the Bible. The entire city of Nineveh—an empire known for ruthless cruelty—humbled itself before God in genuine repentance. Rob unpacks the three Cs of that repentance: conviction, confession, and conversion. God showed mercy. Nobody, as Rob puts it, is out of reach of God's mercy.

But Nahum's prophecy, written roughly 125 years later, announces total destruction. The city is gone. What happened? Rob traces the answer not to the passage of time, but to a single generation—one that grew up not knowing God. Drawing a straight line from Judges 2 to Nineveh to America today, this lesson asks a pointed question: could the same thing happen to us?

The answer, Rob argues, lies in taking seriously Christ's command in Matthew 28:19–20. Discipleship starts at home, with our own children and grandchildren. Political solutions won't preserve a nation's faith—families passing it on will.
