Commonly translated as “peace” and used as both a greeting and farewell, shalom has rich meaning in Hebrew. “Peace” is an accurate translation of the term, but shalom implies more than lack of conflict. Shalom means completeness, soundness, welfare, peace, and that “all is well” in a person’s life.
The writer of Proverbs calls God’s people to live skillfully in a world that often pushes us toward foolishness. Every day, we’re surrounded by competing voices, each claiming to offer the good life. But Proverbs cuts through the noise with a timeless truth: to live well in God’s world, we must live according to God’s ways. Wisdom begins with a posture of reverence, humility, and trust that shapes how we see everything else. The way of wisdom is the way of life, and it’s found in walking closely with the One who is Wisdom Himself: Jesus.
