    Fruitful in His Kingdom
    Luke 19:11-27

    The Village Chapel - 07/27/2025

"What kind of King is Jesus? And what does He expect of us while we wait for His return?"

In Luke 19, Jesus tells a provocative parable about a nobleman, two good servants, one bad servant, and a group of hateful citizens who reject the nobleman’s rule altogether. It’s a story about stewardship, rejection, fear, and faithfulness.

Join Pastor Jim as he explores what it means to be faithful in the in-between—the season between Christ’s first coming and His return as the rightful King. We’ll learn that our lives are not our own; that we’ve been entrusted with something quite valuable. And that one day, the King will return to set the world to rights.

In this passage we’ll rediscover what it means to live with gospel courage, kingdom purpose, and a heart that longs to hear, “Well done, good and faithful servant.”

    To Seek and Save
    Luke 19:1-10

    The Village Chapel - 07/20/2025

We all desire to know and be known, to love and be loved, and to live a life that is somehow significant. How do we accomplish this? Is it through success, wealth, or possessions? Through fame or popularity? In Luke chapter 19, Jesus crosses paths with a man named Zacchaeus, who is full of wealth and success but empty of significance. What happens to this man and his life when he meets Jesus? Join us as we look at this encounter and consider the ultimate mission of Jesus, to seek and save the lost. With God, all things are possible!

  • Entering the Kingdom like a Child: Luke 18:15-43

Entering the Kingdom like a Child
    Luke 18:15-43

    The Village Chapel - 07/06/2025

In Luke 18, Jesus makes a stunning claim: “Whoever does not receive the kingdom of God like a child shall not enter it.”

It’s a simple sentence—but it raises an important question: What does it actually mean to have child-like faith?

How we answer that shapes not only how we relate to God, but how we understand the gospel itself. Through the contrasting stories of a wealthy ruler and a blind beggar, Jesus paints a vivid picture of what it looks like to truly receive the kingdom—not with achievement, but with humility, trust, and desperate dependence.

Join us this Sunday as we continue our study of Luke 18 and consider what it means to come to God not as those who have it all together—but as those who simply know their need.

  • Does Prayer Work?: Luke 18:1-14

    Does Prayer Work?
    Luke 18:1-14

    The Village Chapel - 07/06/2025

Does God actually hear our prayers—or is prayer merely wishful thinking and positive self-talk?

In a world that sometimes feels the weight of heaven’s silence and is drowning in the hopelessness of skepticism, Jesus told two parables—one about a widow and a judge, the other about a Pharisee and a tax collector. These stories speak directly to our own questions about prayer. And they’re more than just lessons about talking to God or at God—they’re revelations about the heart of the One we pray to, and about the condition of our own hearts when we pray.

Join Pastor Jim as he helps us explore what our prayer life reveals about who we really trust. Come and discover how Jesus reveals a God who is righteous, just, and welcoming—and how that changes everything about the way we approach Him in prayer.

  • Thy Kingdom Come, My Kingdom Go: Luke 17:20-37

Thy Kingdom Come, My Kingdom Go
    Luke 17:20-37
    The Village Chapel - 06/29/2025

In a world where uncertainty and fear often dominate the headlines, Jesus’ words in Luke 17:20-37 invite us to look beyond the chaos and consider a deeper reality: the Kingdom of God that has come in Jesus and that will come in its fullness when He comes again. As Jesus nears the cross, his message becomes urgent—challenging spiritual blindness, warning against indifference to the things of God.

This passage presses us to ask: Are we prepared for the day when Christ’s Kingdom comes in all its glory? Jesus’ teaching is both a warning and a comfort—urging us to pay attention to what truly matters, to live with hope, and to long for the day when all things are set right. “Thy Kingdom Come” is more than a phrase; it’s a humbling prayer that welcomes the reign of Christ in every part of life and implicitly asks for God’s help to transform our hearts. Join Pastor Tommy as we explore together what it means to live as people marked by readiness, faith, and hope in the coming King.

  • What Does it Mean to Follow Jesus?: Luke 17:1-19
    2025/06/23

What Does it Mean to Follow Jesus?
    Luke 17:1-19

    The Village Chapel - 06/22/2025

When Jesus speaks, disciples lean in. Not just because His words are powerful, but because they are also personal. Luke 17 is one of those moments. Jesus isn’t speaking to the crowds here—He’s talking to His disciples. To those who claim to follow Him.

What He says isn’t flashy or sensational. It’s not the kind of content that trends or would go viral. But it is the kind of teaching that builds the deep foundation of a resilient, joyful, Christ-centered life. In these verses, Jesus gives us a portrait of discipleship that is marked by humility, forgiveness, faith, and a heart that delights in serving beyond what is required.

Then, in a surprising turn, He walked the outskirts of a Samaritan village to show us something even deeper: that true disciples are those who overflow with gratitude—those who return to Jesus, fall at His feet, and glorify God with thankful hearts.

Join Pastor Jim as he helps us consider four characteristics of those who follow Jesus—and one unexpected picture of what it looks like when grace really takes root. Because Jesus isn’t merely calling us to believe in certain facts about Him—He’s calling us to become like Him in all we do and say.

  • Across the Great Divide: Luke 16:14-31

    Across the Great Divide
    Luke 16:14-31

    The Village Chapel - 06/15/2025

Luke 16 begins with a conversation Jesus has with his disciples about faithfulness with money and righteous stewardship in the kingdom. He continues that conversation with the Pharisees, who are lovers of money and need to be reminded of the sanctity and reverence of God’s Law. Jesus tells them a fascinating story of two men and five brothers, separated by a great chasm, both in this life and the next. Join us as we look at how the Law and the kingdom of God intersect, and how the love of Christ carries us across the great divide.

  • Shrewdness, Stewardship & Submission in the Kingdom - Luke 16:1-13
    2025/06/09

Shrewdness, Stewardship & Submission in the Kingdom
    Luke 16:1-13

    The Village Chapel - 06/08/2025

In the three parables of Jesus in Chapter 15 of Luke's gospel, we saw how precious lost people are to God. The parable of the prodigal son ended with the father explaining to his older son that all the father has already belongs to him. In Chapter 16, Jesus speaks to his disciples about faithfulness with money, a small thing compared to eternal treasure. We are reminded that righteous stewardship begins with the acknowledgement that all we have been given by our Father still belongs to Him and we are accountable for how we use it in His kingdom.
