- 4:30 a.m. on May 9, 2014: a rolled canvas was found behind a utility cabinet in an alley.
- 9:40 a.m. the same morning: a paper carrier photographed the rolled canvas and a police officer unrolled it in the loading bay.
- The original Millworkers at Dusk had hung on Gallery Three's north wall since 1961 and measures 46 by 32 inches.
- Conservator Gordon Long's condition report on Millworkers at Dusk was dated 2012 and was part of a review in spring 2013.
- Louisa Nolan (arriving May 11) spent about four minutes before the wall painting, used a loupe, and concluded the painting on the wall was the copy within forty minutes.
