This podcast is Dr. Stephanie Estima's talk on Day 1. Week 2 of MindValley, Tallinn, Estonia.
Dr Stephanie is a Chiropractor and the Founder of Hello Betty – a community centered around female empowerment through health and business coaching. She is a doctor of chiropractic with a special interest in metabolism, body composition, functional neurology, and female physiology.
As women age, hormonal changes occur through perimenopause (35-51 yrs) and menopause (51+ yrs). Perimenopause brings sleep troubles and cycle changes, eventually leading to menopause after a year without menstruation.
The 40s can be a stressful period for women, causing chronic inflammation and possibly leading to unhealthy eating habits, insulin resistance, fatty liver, and increased LDL levels.
To combat stress and its effects, Dr. Stephanie recommends resistance training to boost testosterone levels, reduce inflammation, and counteract perimenopausal symptoms. Women should focus on exercises that strengthen their glutes, legs, and back using weights. She also recommends high protein intake evenly spread throughout the day, ideally 1 gram of protein per 1 lb of body weight. Animal, soy, and whey proteins are preferred due to their bioavailability.
