このコンテンツについて

The Still of the Night is a weekly true crime podcast where the eerie meets the investigative. I’m Gem Blackshaw, and each week I take you beyond the headlines and into the heart of true stories—unsolved murders, strange disappearances, historical crimes, and the unsettling mysteries that keep us up at night.

With a deep love of storytelling and a curiosity for the darker side of human nature, I explore each case with empathy, insight, and just the right amount of the paranormal. Some stories you’ll know, others you won’t—but all of them will leave you thinking long after the episode ends.

Pull up a chair, light a candle if you like—and join me in The Still of the Night, where the truth is often stranger—and more chilling—than fiction.

The Murder of Kelly-Anne Bates | The Still of the Night Podcast

In this heart breaking episode of The Still of the Night, we explore the devastating and harrowing true crime case of Kelly-Anne Bates—a bright, compassionate 17-year-old girl from Manchester whose life was tragically taken in 1996 after enduring months of horrific abuse.

Groomed at just 14 by a man three decades her senior, Kelly-Anne's story is one of manipulation, control, and unimaginable cruelty. But it's also a stark reminder of the urgent need for awareness around coercive relationships and domestic abuse.

⚠️ Trigger Warning: This episode contains graphic descriptions of violence and abuse. Please listen with care.

  • 8: What Happened To 6yr Old Carol Ann Stephens? Unsolved UK True Crime Ep8
    2025/05/30
In April 1959, 6-year-old Carol Ann Stephens vanished from a quiet residential street in Cathays, Cardiff, sparking one of the most haunting unsolved child abduction cases in UK history. Witnesses reported seeing little Carol get into a dark-coloured Morris Minor with an unknown man—but she never returned home.

Two weeks later, her body was found 60 miles away in a remote culvert near Horeb, West Wales. The case shocked the nation and left a community forever changed. Despite a prime suspect—a commercial traveller named Ronald Edward Murray with links to both Cardiff and the exact location where Carol's body was discovered—no one was ever charged, and the case remains unsolved to this day.

  • 7: True English Horror - Black Annis & Jenny Greenteeth Ep7
    2025/05/30
Welcome to The Still of the Night, your weekly journey into the eerie, the unexplained, and the downright chilling. In this episode, we delve into two terrifying tales from English folklore that will leave you sleeping with the lights on...

First, we descend into the dark lair of Black Annis — a monstrous hag said to lurk in the Dane Hills of Leicestershire. With her blue skin, iron claws, and appetite for children, she’s the stuff of nightmares. Some say she stalks through ancient tunnels beneath Leicester, taking the form of a demonic cat to hunt her prey...

Then we’re pulled into the swampy waters haunted by Jenny Greenteeth, a water witch said to drag children and the unwary to their doom. Her story, rooted in northern English folklore, is a warning passed down through generations — and tonight, you’ll hear it like never before.

If you love paranormal stories, scary folklore, true crime legends, or creepy bedtime stories, this podcast is for you. Press play and let the shadows speak.

New episodes weekly — covering everything from haunted places and serial killers to supernatural encounters and cryptids.
