  • GPS has been revolutionary for everyone, but only when it is able to work
    2026/08/12

GPS had become something we relied on every day—from navigation and deliveries to financial networks, utilities, and communications. But that dependence also created vulnerabilities. I recently had the chance to speak with Renee Gregory, Vice President of Regulatory Affairs for the company NextNav. We discussed the need for a more resilient GPS system, the emerging technologies that could provide a backup, and the roles of federal agencies in making that happen.

  • Protecting all that fancy equipment in space is going to mean staying ahead of cyber threats.
    2026/08/12

Space has become essential to everyday life, from GPS and communications to weather and national security. But as our reliance on satellites grows, so do the cybersecurity risks—and protecting that infrastructure means looking beyond the satellites themselves to the systems, networks and users connected to them. To learn more about how the space industry is adapting to those threats, and why a common language for space cybersecurity could be key to staying ahead of them. We spoke with Sean MacKirdy, area vice president of defense at Elastic.

  • A new arena for U.S. states to work together, while competing.
    2026/08/12

The commercial space industry is growing rapidly, and states across the country are looking for ways to take part—sometimes competing for investment, but increasingly recognizing where collaboration makes more sense. At the same time, the U.S. faces growing gaps in launch capacity, reentry infrastructure and supply chains that will need to be addressed as activity in space accelerates. I had the chance to talk about how states can help build that capacity and coordinate around a broader national strategy. Joining us again is Kelly Keatis Ogborn, strategic advisor for global markets and industry engagement at the Commercial Space Federation.
