Episode 8: The Stories We Tell Ourselves to Survive
Sometimes the story that gets us through a hard season becomes the story that keeps us stuck in it.
“I don’t have a choice.”
“I can handle it.”
“I’m doing this for everyone else.”
“Once things calm down…”
These stories are not always lies. Sometimes they are survival. But eventually, the question becomes whether the explanation that once helped you endure is still helping you live.
In this episode of The Slow Drift, Dr. Joshua Brown explores the stories capable people tell themselves to keep moving, why those stories can become difficult to question, and how to recognize when survival has quietly become a way of life.
Because capacity is not instruction. And the story that got you through deserves gratitude, but it does not automatically deserve control of what comes next.
Some stories are life rafts. Honor that. But a life raft is not a house.
