God's command is almost unbearable: take your son, your only son, and offer him as a sacrifice. For three deliberate days, Abraham walks toward Moriah with Isaac at his side, trusting that the God who gave him this son against every impossibility can be trusted even now.

When Isaac asks where the lamb is, Abraham answers with faith he cannot yet fully explain: "God will provide."

At the last possible moment, the angel of the Lord stops hishand, and a ram appears, caught in a thicket — a substitute, dying in Isaac's place.

This episode traces obedience that costs everything, provision that arrives exactly when needed, and a mountain that foreshadows another hill nearby, centuries later, where God would not spare His Own Son, but gave Him up as the true and final Lamb.

Ten years into God's promise, Abraham and Sarah are stillchildless — and impatience leads them to a human shortcut that fractures their household and sends Hagar fleeing into the wilderness. There, God meets her first, and she names Him El Roi, the God who sees. Years later, Abraham repeats thesame failure of fear at Gerar, lying about Sarah again, yet God still works through his weakness. Finally, twenty-five years after the promise was first spoken, Isaac is born — laughter at last — though his arrival leads to Hagar and Ishmael being sent away, and God meets them again in their own wilderness.Across Genesis 16, 20 and 21, this episode traces what it costs to stop waiting on God's timing, and the far greater truth that His faithfulness never depends on ours. Isaac points forward to every believer reborn by grace; Ishmael, to every outsider drawn near through Christ.

Genesis 18 – 19

In this episode…. Three visitors arrive at Abraham’s tent in the heat of the day, and one of them speaks with a voice no created being could carry.

Sarah laughs bitterly behind the tent wall, and God asks the question that hangs over the whole of Genesis: is anything too hard for the LORD?

Then the LORD turns toward Sodom – and does something astonishing. He takes Abraham into His confidence, and Abraham draws near and begins to plead. Fifty righteous, forty, thirty, twenty, ten…. And here is what should stop us in our tracks: God never once refuses. It is Abraham who stops asking.

In Genesis 19 we walk into a city where every restraint has collapsed, and we watch a man so corroded by the place he chose that he can no longer tell right from wrong. Yet Lot is saved – not because he is righteous, but because he is seized by the hand, “the LORD being merciful to him.”

And in the end, the ten cannot be found. So God sends One. Not ten righteous to spare a city – but one righteous man, dragged outside the gate, to save a world.

While Christopher Nolan's Odyssey fills cinemas around the world, we take a step off the main path to ask why a poem nearly three thousand years old still pulls us in. The answer, I think, is an ache we all know — the longing for home the Greeks called nostos, the very word buried inside our "nostalgia."

Homer's hero fights his way home by cunning and strength, proves he's the true king by bending a bow no one else can bend, and is recognised at last by his scars. It's a homecoming you have to be worthy of. And that, deep down, is what the human heart believes about God: earn it, prove it, be good enough.

Then, one afternoon in Galilee, Jesus tells a very different homecoming story — a son who comes back with empty hands and a rehearsed apology, and a Father who runs.

Melchizedek: The Priest-King of Salem

Episode 12 - Abraham and the Promise - God's Redemptive Plan Through One Family

Abraham's story begins with God calling him out of Ur, promising to bless him, make his name great, and form a nation through his family.

Despite Sarah's barrenness and the uncertainty of a new land, Abraham responds in faith, building altars and trusting God's guidance. In Canaan, conflict with Lot reveals Abraham's generosity, while God reaffirms His covenant.

When Lot is captured, Abraham courageously rescues him, demonstrating God's protection over the chosen family.

Through Abraham, God launches His redemptive plan—one family set apart to bring blessing, hope, and ultimately salvation to the world.

Episode 11 - Elohim: The God Before Everything

Exploring the name of God: His Identity, character and theological meaning.

In this episode of The Simply Christian Podcast, we take a break from our journey through Genesis to explore the very first name given to God in Scripture: Elohim — the God before everything.

Genesis doesn't open with an argument for God's existence, a philosophy, or a list of commandments. It opens with a name. So, in this episode, we slow down and ask what that name reveals: A God of power, of majesty, and of absolute authority, whom stands before creation, behind creation, and above creation — the One from whom everything comes and upon whom, everything depends.

Along the way, we discover how the names Elohim, YHWH, and Adonai unfold God's character across Scripture — the transcendent Creator of Genesis 1 who draws near in Genesis 2, walking in the garden with His people.
