In 2010, Keri Murphy was starting her freshman year at Nimitz High School in Humble, TX. She joined the JV choir, not knowing that this decision would change the course of her life. For the holiday performance, all three choirs at the school came together to perform. This is when Keri met Rebecca Keller. Rebecca was a senior and Keri thought she was so cool. The two seemed drawn to each other and shortly after meeting, they started dating.

Keri’s mom, Mary Ann, approved at first, until she found out Rebecca was a 19 year old senior about to graduate. Mary Ann told Keri they could no longer see each other. But it was too late. They were too in love and nothing would keep them apart. Keri was caught sneaking out of her house and sneaking Rebecca into the house multiple times. Mary Ann had had enough. She called the police and got a restraining order making it illegal for Rebecca to be near Keri. Even this didn’t keep them from seeing each other.

One night in July 2012, Keri made a 911 call saying she had heard her mom scream from her bedroom and saw two men running out of the house. First responders arrived at the scene and noticed some discrepancies with Keri’s story almost immediately. But it would take multiple interviews and polygraph tests with multiple people before they would discover the truth.
