概要
The Black Seminoles are one of the prominent Black American tribes whose history has been overlooked and suppressed, alongside other indigenous groups like the Gullah/Geechee and the Washitaw Nations.
The Black Seminoles are descendants of enslaved Africans who escaped plantations and allied with the Seminole Nation in Florida. They played a significant role in resisting slavery and fought in the Seminole Wars against the U.S. government. Their contributions to American history have often been downplayed, despite their significant resistance against oppression and their unique cultural heritage. Instead of becoming more Spanish, Florida increasingly became more "American."
- An overview of all the Indigenous American peoples is presented in Indigenous Peoples of the Americas.
- Discussions of various aspects of Indigenous American cultures may also be found in the following:
- Pre-Columbian civilizations: Middle American Indian, South American Indian, the Arctic People, American Indian languages, Native American religions, and Native American arts.
