The political atmosphere in Maharashtra has become fluid, with Shiv Sena veteran Eknath Shinde defying party leadership and indicating plans to join hands with the BJP. The former Maharashtra MLA reached a five star hotel in Surat following the cross-voting in Maharashtra Legislative Council (MLC).Shiv Sena leader Eknath Shinde, who was camping in Gujarat before departing for Assam with around 33 party MLAs, stated that they have not left Balasaheb Thackeray's Shiv Sena. His statement came as speculation mounting that Shinde and other MLAs would join the BJP in an attempt to destabilise the Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA) government."We have not left Balasaheb Thackeray's Shiv Sena and will not leave it," he announced in a statement. We have followed Balasaheb's Hindutva and will continue to do so."

Shinde and other Shiv Sena MLAs were staying at the Le Meridien hotel in Surat following the MLC elections.

In Surat, a Shiv Sena delegation led by Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray's close advisers Milind Narvekar and Ravindra Phatak met with Shinde as well as other party members.
