Michelle and Nicola are back after a break – and neither of them actually switched off! They catch up on their very different holidays (Michelles's all-inclusive in Rhodes vs. Nicola's dog-friendly walks on the Yorkshire coast), before diving into a topic that came straight from Nicola's holiday reflection: the invisible rule book we all live by.
In this episode:
- Why Nicola worked every single day of her "holiday" – and what she's learned from it
- Nicola's epic 11-hour train journey to Birmingham (and why the car would have been better)
- The post-holiday motivation slump – and how Claire Lockey's Skills Bootcamp Summer Social reignited their spark
- Holiday planning: Japan, Rome, 50th birthdays, and why next year is a very big year
The invisible rule book – unwritten rules we follow without question:
- We should always reply quickly
- We should always be productive
- We should grow our business
- We should always be available
- We should keep our houses tidy
- We should have a five-year plan
- We should wear age-appropriate clothes
- We should be grateful and stop wanting more
The big question: Who actually made these rules? Why do we follow them – and what happens if we just... stop?
The one rule they'd delete forever:
- Nicola: The guilt around resting – why do we feel we have to be doing something, even on holiday?
- Michelle: Women constantly apologising for how they look – from roots to messy houses to no makeup
Your challenge this week: Complete the sentence – "I've realised I don't actually have to..."
Some examples from conversations with women: ironing everything, answering messages immediately, wearing makeup, losing weight, hustling, saying yes to everything, being constantly available.
The takeaway: Reinvention doesn't always mean adding something new. Sometimes it starts with asking: "What if I just stopped following that rule?"
