A quiet subdivision, a gardening woman found on her garage floor, and a freshly watered terracotta pot on the carport lip that had never been there before - a detail so ordinary it screams wrong. The pot held a six-inch tomato seedling, soil still dark at 6:17 a.m.; did Pamela water it and then die, or did someone water it after she was already dead?
In this episode, we present the facts of the case as recorded in the file and raise the question listeners must weigh: can three small deviations from routine-the dog outside, the unzipped bowling bag, and the foreign seedling-reconcile with an accidental death, or do they point to something else?
Person: Pamela Watson
Date: May 9, 1991
Location: 1114 Holloway Circle, Sycamore Crossing, Drennan, Tennessee
Age: 44
Investigation status: Case file initially ruled accidental; reopened in 2013 by Drennan PD cold case unit
- At 6:17 a.m. on May 9, 1991, paperboy William Riley found Pamela on the garage floor and a terracotta pot on the carport lip.
- The pot was 14 inches tall and held a 6-inch tomato seedling with soil still dark and damp at the time it was found.
- Pamela bought one bag of seed-starting soil at Brackett True Value at 7:48 p.m. the evening before; the receipt was in her jacket pocket.
- Pamela had kept seedlings under a grow light on a laundry room shelf; the seedling in the carport pot did not match any plant from that shelf.
- In 2013 Detective Roger Quinn noted three discrepancies at the scene: the dog Cutter was outside, Pamela’s bowling bag was unzipped with shoes loose on top, and the unfamiliar, freshly watered terracotta pot.
