Even the "plus-size" models being cast are *still* way smaller and leaner than the average American woman. Basically, the industry is using a few token outliers to look progressive, while the actual, everyday standard for high fashion hasn't shifted even a little bit.
There is a huge disconnect happening on TikTok and Instagram right now, where a lot of modern women are genuinely falling for the delusion that the game has changed. Because we see a few curve models on our feeds, there’s this belief that society has completely rewritten what it finds conventionally attractive.
But the data shows that's a total cap.
The delusion is thinking that corporate marketing campaigns equal real-world attraction. Brands like Savage X Fenty or Dove didn't launch "inclusive" campaigns because they wanted to change the laws of human biology; they did it because inclusivity sells products to the average consumer.
Some women have internalized this corporate validation so deeply that they expect the entire, hardwired framework of conventional beauty—which for thousands of years has biologically linked certain proportions to youth and health—to shift just because a brand changed its billboard.
We’ve confused *feeling good in our own skin* (which is awesome and necessary) with *changing what the world considers a high-fashion ideal*. When women get mad that the world isn't celebrating an average or above-average physique as the new peak of conventional attractiveness, they are fighting biology with internet trends.
The most empowering thing you can do is unplug from the delusion. Stop waiting for a fundamentally exclusive industry to validate your real-world body. Once you realize that the "inclusive shift" is just a corporate aesthetic designed to get your data and your cash, you can stop holding yourself to a standard that was never real in the first place.
