• In Defense of Evangelicalism: Why It’s Still the Best Hope for America
    2026/09/04
In Praise of Evangelicalism A Reformed Defense of the Best of American Evangelicalism Fog Machines, Youth Groups, MegaChurches... Oh My! Every Reformed guy knows the progression. You get saved at First Baptist. You survive youth group, church camp, ridiculous games, contemporary worship songs, and an altar call or two. Then somebody hands you Calvin’s Institutes. Suddenly you have opinions about everything. Before long, Grandma’s Baptist church seems embarrassingly shallow, you own three pipes, and you’re dressing like you’re on your way to bury Abraham Lincoln. But maybe Grandma knew a few things. In this episode, Pastor Joseph Spurgeon and Zach take a deliberately appreciative look at American evangelicalism. There are plenty of legitimate criticisms to make. Shallow preaching, entertainment-driven worship, theological rootlessness, seeker-sensitive churches, and youth ministries built around amusement deserve scrutiny. But evangelicalism also taught generations of Christians to read their Bibles, pray, love Jesus, pursue personal holiness, preach the gospel, support missions, reach children, and actually tell unbelievers about Christ. The Reformed world should deepen those instincts rather than despise them. Joseph and Zach discuss what an evangelical actually is, Martyn Lloyd-Jones’ definition of evangelicalism, the strengths and weaknesses of youth groups and church camps, family-integrated worship, evangelism, missions, personal conversion, theological pride, and the temptation to mistake our preferences for biblical principles. Recover the riches of Reformed theology. Love the confessions. Learn church history. Teach your children the catechism. Just don't become too sophisticated to tell somebody about Jesus. • What Is Schism? Are You More Schismatic Than You Think?
    2026/08/20
What Is Schism? Are You More Schismatic Than You Think? Redeemed Zoomer, Doug Wilson, and the Protestant Problem of Church Unity Protestants have heard the charge for centuries: You’re schismatics. You divided the Church. And sometimes, Protestants make that accusation pretty easy to believe. Churches split over personalities. Christians build factions around favorite pastors. Secondary disagreements become tests of faithfulness. A man gets offended, gathers a few followers, walks out the door, and calls it courage. But leaving a church does not automatically make a man schismatic. A man can stay in the same church for twenty years while undermining his elders, gathering a faction, reviving old controversies, and poisoning brothers against one another. He never leaves the institution, but he may be the biggest schismatic in the room. So what actually is schism? In this episode, Pastor Joseph Spurgeon and Zach Krugler use the recent debate between Redeemed Zoomer and Doug Wilson as a starting point for a much older Protestant question: What constitutes genuine Christian unity, and when is separation from a church or denomination justified? We examine the Westminster Confession’s doctrine of the visible catholic Church and turn to Reformation theologian Peter Martyr Vermigli for a careful definition of schism. His argument cuts both ways. Christians cannot treat churches like voluntary clubs, but neither does an old institution possess an unconditional claim upon the Christian conscience simply because it got there first. Sometimes separation is sinful. Sometimes separation is necessary. And sometimes the man loudly condemning everyone else as schismatic needs to take a hard look in the mirror. • What's the Bigger Problem? Abortion or Mass Immigration?
    2026/08/05
What's the Bigger Problem? Abortion or Mass Immigration? Mass immigration is reshaping America. Millions have entered the country illegally, birthright citizenship remains a battleground, and many conservatives argue that stopping demographic replacement must take priority over fighting abortion. But is that really the right order? In this episode, Pastor Joseph Spurgeon and Zack Krugler tackle one of the biggest debates on the political right. While affirming that unchecked immigration is a serious threat to a nation's stability and identity, they argue that Christians must reject the false choice between securing the border and defending unborn children. Scripture teaches that nations are judged when they embrace idolatry and shed innocent blood. Throughout the Old Testament, child sacrifice brought God's judgment, and one of the covenant curses was that foreigners would rise over a disobedient people. Rather than seeing immigration and abortion as competing issues, this conversation argues that abortion is one of the reasons God's judgment falls on nations in the first place. If America expects God's blessing while continuing to sacrifice its own children, it should not be surprised when the consequences extend far beyond the abortion clinic. • How to Lead Your Wife Through Change | Ten Biblical Strategies Every Husband Needs
    2026/07/21
How to Lead Your Wife Through Change | Ten Biblical Strategies Every Husband Needs Every husband who takes Scripture seriously eventually faces this challenge. God convicts you that something in your home needs to change. Maybe it's family worship. Maybe it's your budget. Maybe it's homeschooling, church life, discipline, or a theological conviction you've recently embraced. The question isn't whether you should lead. The question is how. Too many men swing between two sinful extremes. Some become passive and avoid difficult conversations altogether. Others come home with a brand-new plan they've been thinking about for months and expect their wife to embrace it in six seconds. Biblical leadership looks different. In this episode, Pastor Joseph Spurgeon and Zach Krugler unpack ten practical, biblical strategies for leading your wife through change with conviction, wisdom, patience, and love. They discuss why leadership requires both authority and understanding, how to cast vision without overwhelming your family, why repentance often begins with the husband, and how to remain steadfast when leadership is met with resistance. If you've ever wondered how to implement meaningful change in your marriage without becoming passive or overbearing, this episode is for you. • The PCA's Christian Nationalism Report: What They Got Right and Wrong
    2026/07/08

Does the PCA Understand Christian Nationalism?

What They Got Right... and Where They Went Wrong

The PCA has released its long-awaited report on Christian Nationalism, and many people had already chosen sides before reading a single page. Some dismissed it because it came from the PCA. Others praised it simply because they oppose Christian Nationalism. In this episode, Pastor Joseph Spurgeon and Zach slow down and do something increasingly rare: they actually read the report.

The committee was made up of faithful churchmen wrestling with difficult questions, and the report contains several important biblical affirmations that deserve recognition. At the same time, it raises significant concerns by blurring biblical commands with prudential judgments, narrowing the breadth of the Reformed tradition, and making historical claims that deserve closer examination.

Together we walk through the report's affirmations and denials, discussing where we agree, where we disagree, and why these questions matter for every Christian who believes that Jesus Christ is Lord over every sphere of life.

  • Pride Is Over: What Happens When Christians Stop Being Afraid
    2026/06/18
Pride Is Over What Happens When Christians Stop Being Afraid Every June, the rainbow flags come out, corporations change their logos, and the culture demands applause for what God condemns. This year, Pastor Joseph Spurgeon spent Pride Month posting biblical truth about homosexuality, gender confusion, and the destructive consequences of sexual rebellion. The response? Thousands of angry comments, accusations, objections, and enough bad theology to keep the internet busy for months. In this episode, Joseph and Zach Krugler dive headfirst into the comment section. They tackle the most common arguments against biblical teaching on homosexuality, expose revisionist attempts to rewrite Scripture, discuss the connection between sexual sin and cultural decay, and examine why support for Pride seems to be losing momentum. Along the way, they share stories from years of street preaching at Pride events, reflect on real people harmed by the lies of the sexual revolution, and explain why Christians must stop being intimidated into silence. This episode is serious, theological, occasionally hilarious, and unapologetically direct. 2026/06/10
Should Men Still Get Married? Feminism and Red-Pill Bitterness Are Destroying the Family Why are so many young men asking, "Why should I get married?" After decades of feminism attacking marriage as oppression, a growing number of men are now embracing the opposite error. The manosphere, MGTOW movement, and red-pill influencers often preach a message of fear, bitterness, and withdrawal from marriage. Different rhetoric. Same result. In this episode, Pastor Joseph Spurgeon and Zach Krugler tackle one of the biggest questions facing Christian men today: Is marriage still worth it? They examine feminist attacks on marriage, critique the growing anti-marriage sentiment in the manosphere, break down surprising statistics about marriage, and show why God's design for marriage remains essential for faithful Christian men. Drawing from Scripture, church history, and practical experience, they make the case that marriage is not a trap to avoid but a calling to embrace. • Icon Wars: Has the Church Been Bowing to Idols?
    2026/05/28
Icon Wars: Has the Church Been Bowing to Idols? How Rome and the East Smuggle Idolatry into Worship Through Sentiment and Bad Arguments “Stop kissing idols.” When God thundered from Sinai, He did not mumble. He did not leave room for clever loopholes. He said: “Thou shalt not make unto thee any graven image… thou shalt not bow down thyself to them.” Yet for centuries, Rome and the East have tried to explain away what God made plain. In this episode of The Patriarchy Podcast, Pastor Joseph Spurgeon and Zach Krugler step into the Icon Wars. Are icons, statues, relics, and painted images harmless aids to worship… or baptized idolatry dressed up in tradition? The guys break down the Eastern Orthodox and Roman Catholic arguments for icon veneration, including appeals to the incarnation, church history, temple imagery, and “honor passing through the image.” They examine why modern Protestants, exhausted by shallow evangelicalism, are being lured toward ancient aesthetics and mystical sentimentality. They also ask the practical questions many Christians wrestle with: Is every image of Jesus sinful? What about children’s Bibles and movies like The Chosen or The Passion of the Christ? What do we do with relics like the Shroud of Turin?Does church history actually support icon veneration? Can Christians distinguish between honor and worship? This is not a debate about art alone. It is a battle over worship, authority, and whether God gets to decide how He is approached. Faithful men do not improve God’s worship. They obey it.
