    2026/08/07
⚡💥 HOLOGRAMS, HENCHMEN, HEAVY ACTION AND SO MUCH HAIR. 💥⚡

For Episode 25, The PM Entertainment Podcast plasters on the ionised stage make-up and jacks into the grid for Hologram Man (1995), Richard Pepin and Evan Lurie's gloriously unhinged vision of a near-future Los Angeles where the prison system has gone digital, henchmen all require characteristic nicknames and one very angry, very dangerous man named Slash Gallagher (don't call him Norman!) has decided that being converted into an holographic form is less of a punishment and more of an opportunity. Him and his band of rag tag revolutionaries are going to take down the capitalistic overlords but not if vacant eyed, crackshot rookie Joe Lara can stop them first!

Starring Joe Lara's hair as Decoder, the cop trying to put the genie back in the bottle and PM Player, Michael Nouri as the man who probably should have seen this coming, Hologram Man is PM Entertainment at its most gleefully, ambitiously explosive and relentless — big ideas, big shoot outs, bigger explosions and a villain for the ages who loves to terrorise the public transit system.

And speaking of the villain, we sit down with the charming Evan Lurie, who co-wrote, produced and stars as the magnificent Slash Gallagher himself, to talk about how the film came together, how those iconic dreadlocks happened, the special effects and considerably more.

  • Episode 24 - Magic Kid
    2026/07/17
    🥋🎬 KUNG-FU, CLOWNS AND CALIFORNIA, BABY. 🎬🥋

For Episode 24, The PM Entertainment Podcast straps on our ninja duds and hi-yas! our way through 1993's Magic Kid, the gloriously knockabout PM comedy in which an 11-year-old karate champion from Michigan visits his disaster of an uncle in California, gets mixed up with the mob, and proceeds to kick clumsy gangsters, scuzzy surf bums, leather clad pool hustlers, beach hoods and an entire costume party worth of would-be-assassins in the face. Don "The Dragon" Wilson shows up too, because of course he does.

Starring Ted Jan Roberts as the irrepressible Kevin Ryan and Stephen Furst as his Jack Daniels-for-breakfast, clown agent and gambling maniac, uncle Bob, Magic Kid is Joseph Merhi letting his hair down and trading car chases and exploding buses for clowns, comedy and kid-friendly kung fu, and having an absolute blast doing it.

Joining me for the ride is the brilliant Adam Thorn: filmmaker, low budget movie enthusiast, YouTuber, Canadian and the force behind Riot at the Movies

Together we dig into the golden era of kids' martial arts cinema and the life, career and sad, untimely passing of the wonderful Ted Jan RobertsPower Rangers, Masked Rider and one of PM Entertainment's most loveable stars.

This one's got heart. And quite a lot of kicking. Let's go. 🥋

  • Episode 23 - Angels of the City
    2026/06/07
🌃💥 HOLLYWOOD BOULEVARD. NEON. DANGER. HARPOONS. AND A SONG THAT WON'T QUIT. 💥🌃

This week The PM Entertainment Podcast heads to the mean, neon-soaked streets of late 80s Hollywood for Angels of the City (1989) — a gloriously sleazy, energetic early PM Entertainment gem in which two college girls, dressed as street walkers for a sorority initiation, find themselves kidnapped, shot at and chased by actual pimps. And that's just where the trouble starts.

Directed by, written by, starring and with the title song written and produced by Lawrence Hilton-Jacobs - AKA Freddie "Boom Boom" Washington from Welcome Back Kotter - who returns as the inept and not very heroic Detective Jon Chance. Angels of the City is early PM firing on all cylinders: car chases, shotgun blasts, people being thrown through glass, Interestingly placed Coor's Beer Lights, Checkov's random harpoon and one of the ear wormiest title tracks in the history of straight-to-video cinema.

Produced by PM legends Joseph Merhi and Richard Pepin, this is PM Entertainment killing it before they even knew how good they were going to get.

Joining me to dig into PM's Dante's Inferno of sorority comedies, are two of the finest authorities on direct-to-video and VHS cinema around — Moe Von Helvete and Matt Poirier, the Direct-to-Video Connoisseur himself.
