We’ve all heard it: “God won’t give you more than you can handle.” It sounds encouraging—but is it actually biblical?

In this episode of The Pastoral Associates, we continue our series “Things We Believe That Are Not in the Bible” by examining this popular phrase. We discuss how 1 Corinthians 10:13 is often taken out of context, look at biblical examples of people who were completely overwhelmed, and consider why God sometimes allows us to face circumstances far beyond our own strength.

The Bible’s message isn’t “You’re stronger than you think.” It’s “God is stronger than you could ever be.” From Israel at the Red Sea to Paul’s thorn in the flesh, Scripture repeatedly shows us that our weakness is often the place where God teaches us to stop trusting ourselves and depend completely on Him.

Sometimes God does give us more than we can handle—so that we discover that His grace is sufficient, His power is perfected in weakness, and He is more than enough.
