In this special 400th episode of The Dr. G Show, Dr. Patrick Garrett shares the story behind the man many know simply as "Dr. G."
Growing up in a rough neighborhood where violence was a daily reality, Dr. G faced challenges that could have easily altered the course of his life. After several close calls and witnessing firsthand the struggles that affect so many families, he made a decision to pursue education as a path forward.
That journey led him into an exclusive medical magnet program, followed by graduation from chiropractic college and subsequent attendance at medical school. Along the way, he completed more than 3,500 hours of clinical clerkships spanning surgery, pediatrics, psychiatry, family medicine, internal medicine, and geriatrics.
Driven by a passion for lifelong learning, Dr. G went on to earn five postdoctoral diplomates and advanced certifications while furthering his studies through the Harvard Medical School Lifestyle Medicine Program and numerous postgraduate educational institutions.
Recognizing that conventional approaches often failed to address the root causes of chronic disease, Dr. G developed what he calls Functional Lifestyle Medicine—a comprehensive model that combines lifestyle medicine, clinical nutrition, functional medicine, behavior change, and personalized health strategies.
Over the past two decades, he has traveled throughout the United States and internationally, lecturing to healthcare professionals and the public on chronic disease reversal, nutrition, inflammation, hormones, gut health, and human performance.
Since launching The Dr. G Show in 2016, he has produced more than 300 podcast episodes, interviewed experts from around the world, educated countless listeners, and built a global audience dedicated to healthier, happier, and more hormonally balanced lives.
Episode 400 is a reflection on the obstacles, lessons, successes, failures, and defining moments that shaped the journey from a kid growing up in the ghetto to becoming the educator, clinician, speaker, mentor, and podcast host known around the world as Dr. G.
Thank you for being part of the first 400 episodes. The mission continues.
