October 2017. A payphone rings at the abandoned Beaumont Gas Station on Route 41, just outside Mapleton, Illinois. Luna is driving home late, pulls over on instinct. On the other end, a woman named Cora — out of breath, whispering, hiding in a closet. She says her husband is in the living room, and he is not her husband anymore. Luna stays on the line for forty-seven minutes. She listens to the floorboards creak, the breathing on the other end grow ragged, the sound of a door opening. Cora says three things before the line goes dead. One: 'He came back from the hunting trip different.' Two: 'I found the skin in the garage, wrapped in plastic, still warm.' Three: 'I think he's wearing it.' The call drops. Luna calls back. The payphone rings and rings. She drives back to town the next morning. The Beaumont station is still there, but the payphone is gone. No one in Mapleton remembers a payphone ever being there. This episode is a slow dread spiral about the things that call you, and the things that answer for you. No gore.
