This started as a delving into the historic Long Beach Pike. Today we are acknowledging that history is much more exciting when it is viewed in the context of the rest of the world. The name change to The Mystery of History reflects this.

The Long Beach Pike was the first amusement zone in the West Coast. It was the West Coast version of Coney Island, and like Coney Island, it was a destination for tens of thousands on any weekend day. It was a time before automobiles. Visitors arrived, first by horse and buggy, then by the Pacific Electric Red Car. Join Paul Miranda and Trish Tsoiasue in this journey down the memory lane of time.Copyright Patricia Tsoiasue

About the image: Photograph of a Pacific Electric Railway car in Long Beach on opening day of the Long Beach line, July 4, 1902. The electric railroad car is at center and resembles a streetcar. A long arm reaches from the top of the car to an overhead wire. The car is dark-colored and bears the number 219, as well as the words "Long Beach". There are many people in the car and entering the car through doors at the front and back. Two young boys are watching in the foreground at left. A two story building can be seen in the background at left.

  • Municipal Auditorium Memories and the Beginning of Television with KTLA
    2023/02/09
In this episode, Paul shares his memories of the Municipal Auditorium in the 1930s and of KTLA's role in television history in the 1940s.

We get a nice view of what it was like to be one of the few people with a television in the 1940s.

Paul talks about early KTLA programming.

He spends some time talking about Kathy Fiscus (Katherine, Ann Fiscus), a 3 year old child who fell into a well in San Marino in 1949. The story transfixed the nation. I was surprised that Paul remembered her name!

We talk about some of the famous people who played at the Municipal Auditorium.
Frank Sinatra, Steve Lawrence, Cecile de Mille, Eydie Gourme, Elvis Presley.

Paul's memories of the Long Beach Pike can be found here:
