This episode of The Music Mind Podcast features Andy Martin, a Los Angeles based highly respected professional trombone player.
Andy has played trombone for a living his entire life. He has built a reputation as one of the world's top improvising and studio trombone players having worked with Gordon Goodwin's LA based Big Phat Band, along with many other outstanding musicians and performers. For many decades he has been a first call Hollywood studio musician working on some of the biggest movie soundtracks and television shows.
The international music instrument manufacturer Yamaha has worked with Andy to create his own professional series trombone.
This conversation covers a wide range of topics including what it's like playing in the studios versus live, making a living in the music business, the importance of learning songs and being able to sight read accurately. It also delves into the reality of the challenges that face an aging brass player.
For the music collaboration on this episode, Andy chose the jazz standard There Is No Greater Love. The duet features Andy on tenor trombone with Brian Hayes on tenor saxophone.
