    2023/11/20

Wrapping up series 2 we have Mike Warren who heads up the Apex Organisation out of Brighton. Initially starting in direct sales to gain some practical experience during a summer between university semesters he decided to apply himself and 18 months later was running an office.

Talking of managing self doubt and how to preparation to prevent it from stopping you advancing in your career. On mentorship he identifies that those with the most valuable advice might not be approached as often. Also to ask yourself "Am I evidencing what I think I am doing".

  • S2E6 - Greig Ward: "I have dedication to preparation."
    2023/11/13

Coming at things from an educational perspective in today's episode we have Greig Ward, Creative Content and Learning Manager at The Marketing Sales Group in Australia. If you are the type of person who likes theories to be backed with studies and evidence then you'll enjoy hearing how Greig reviews the '3 M's'. Talking about getting into flow, understanding that not everyone is motivated in the same way and where that 'sweet spot' of motivation is.

With exceptional experience and talent when it comes to coaching this is a must listen to episode for anyone who wants to get the best out of the people they are mentoring.

Apologies for the sound quality not quite matching our other episodes, we had an issue with a file after we finished recording. We didn't want to attempt to re-record and miss some of the nuggets of wisdom that Greig shared.

  • S2E5 - James Buckley: "Do things properly, people are always watching."
    2023/11/06

With over two decades of direct sales experience under his belt, James Buckley of Mantra Marketing is very well placed to offer some insight into what it takes to make it in this industry.

Very much of the opinion that you don't really have time to think about hope to 'cope' and rather just roll your sleeves up and graft, he reflects with us on how his parents have really left an imprint on his way of working. Also how the people he works along side (like Fran Davies from series 1) have shaped his ethics to be more people focussed and to look after others over focussing on looking after yourself.

Definitely a no nonsense conversation which lays out the facts that if you want to run a successful business you are going to have to deal with (and enjoy!) a lot of bull...

  • S2E3 - Steve Sapsford: "People with a clear 'Why' are often action oriented."
    2023/10/23

In our eyes the definition of a great mentor, Steve Sapsford of Elite and Jarzac Group based out of NSW, Australia speaks to us about how he observed a focussed mindset and mentality in his early days in direct sales.

It's so clear from this conversation that Steve gets a lot of satisfaction and reward from supporting others in their journeys, reflecting on what he looked for in a mentor himself and how that has shaped his consulting role today. A firm believer in the rule of reciprocity we hear about how he really values integrity and treating people how you would want to be treated as what comes around goes around. Not only that but you can't just succeed by yourself you need a fantastic support team around you to make the magic happen.

  • S2E1 - Joshua Scanlon: "Don't confuse your self worth with your net worth."
    2023/10/09

We've returned to the studio with more episodes of experts in the direct sales world and first up this round we have Josh, MD of AEI Prospects based in Brighton who has 10 years experience after graduating from university.

Quite a surprising and vulnerable discussion about how he was identified as a student unlikely to meet the expected criteria in his SATS, to wanting pursue a career in sports psychology before landing in direct sales to develop his soft skills. He gives us an insight into how his limiting beliefs stalled his initial progress and how having the right people in his circle really helped him during college and beyond.

A perfect episode to listen to if you have never been the one to pick things up 'quickly' and how work ethic and a great student mentality can persevere.

  • S1E4 - Mike Blane: "I am motivated by fear."
    2023/07/10

Welcome to Mike Blane, CEO of Appco UK, with a career in direct sales spanning  33 years ever since he was, in his own words, 'lost' after graduating from university.  If you were to look at his 'stats' over career it would be some impressive reading - from the companies he has helped boost through the connections he has formed between them and direct sales teams across the UK and beyond and the amount of money raised for charities in the same way.

He lets us in on how he operates and his reflection on how his actions are often 'motivated by fear', FOMO is real. Emerging on the other side of many challenges over the years he talks about how he aims to find solutions or minimise problems when they arise. On mentorship he explains the value of focussing on what the person you are supporting wants, not on your own agenda as well as learning when to say 'No'.

So many fantastic insights which hopefully will resonate with you whatever stage of your sales career you are currently on and some confidence to believe him when he says "You are better that you think you are."
