    Alan Kennedy was a young left-back just making his way into the Newcastle United team as their 1973/74 FA Cup run get underway.


    With the spectre of that famous defeat against Hereford United still hanging over them, the Magpies had to navigate nervy opening rounds against hendon and Scunthorpe before they really got into their stride.


    Thumping West Brom, then taking three games to defeat Nottingham Forest after the first game turned into a riot on Tyneside, Newcastle prepared for their semi-final by tip-toeing through the tulips in Buxton, then had their Wembley preparations derailed by problems over tracksuits and nights out.


    All of this and "Who's Tommy Smith?" to boot, this is the tale of a very 1970s FA Cup run.
