- A tin lantern was hung from a signpost above the drainage ditch at Pell’s Fork and photographed from three angles by Frank York on June 14, 2011.
- The lanter n has been documented at that exact spot in every odd-numbered June back to at least 1962.
- Kathleen Watson, age 47, had kept a lantern lit on new-moon nights for two years before her death.
- Alton Watson’s June 1891 marginal note in the Merrills First Presbyterian register states: "K.W. to keep the light at the Fork on account of the agreement."
- Robert Teal found Kathleen’s body and recovered a pair of black walking shoes placed side by side on the Caldwell Road surface about thirty feet from the ditch; the shoes were later inventoried in her sister Ida’s personal effects but omitted from Coroner Everett Cage’s report.
