  • The Life of David - Part 8, James Clarke
    2026/08/24

In this episode, David finds himself in a real pickle. Exhausted from years of running from Saul, he makes the momentous decision to leave Israel and seek refuge among his old enemies, the Philistines. It solves one problem, but creates a whole series of new ones. Before long, David is living in enemy territory, trying to remain loyal to Israel while serving a Philistine king, and eventually facing the horrifying prospect of marching into battle against his own people. Then everything falls apart: Ziklag is burned, his family is taken captive, and even his own men turn against him. At one of the lowest moments of his life, David “finds strength in the Lord his God.” It’s a dramatic story about fear, difficult decisions, divided loyalties, impossible situations—and the extraordinary grace of God when life becomes a complicated mess.

This episode, focusing on 1 Samuel 26, explores one of the great tests of David's character, revealing why he refused to grasp power by sinful means, what it means to trust God when justice is delayed, and how David's story prepares us for Jesus Christ, the King who chose the path of suffering before glory.

In this episode, we explore one of the most dramatic moments in David's life as he is given the perfect opportunity to kill King Saul, the man who has spent years hunting David down. Hidden in a cave at En Gedi, David must choose between revenge and trusting God. Why does he refuse to strike Saul down when everyone around him urges him to? This passage explores justice, mercy, forgiveness, and what it means to leave vengeance in God's hands.
