概要

You're spending hours researching every birth decision, but somehow you feel more confused than confident.

I'm Charlotte, a labor and delivery nurse turned doula, and I've been exactly where you are. After supporting hundreds of hospital births and experiencing both a traumatic cesarean and an empowering VBAC, I know the gap between what you read online and what actually happens in the delivery room. And I'm here to bridge that gap without the fear-mongering or judgment.

This podcast isn't about following someone else's birth plan or just going with whatever your doctor says because "that's how we do it here." It's for you if you're over the scare tactics and being talked down to. If you want to make choices that actually feel right for you, not what some influencer or outdated protocol says you should do.

You don't need another person with all the answers telling you there's only one "right" way. You need the real information so you can figure out what works for YOU and let go of the rest. Whether you're planning an unmedicated birth, you want an epidural, you're facing an induction, or things take an unexpected turn, this podcast will help you understand your options so you can make decisions you feel good about.

Each week, I'll bring you topic deep dives on things that actually matter like inductions, pain management options, interventions, and preparing for postpartum. You'll also hear real birth stories from moms who've been there and expert interviews with providers who get it.

If you're drowning in Instagram advice and just want someone to tell you the truth about birth without pushing an agenda, you're in the right place.

New episodes every Tuesday. Hosted by Charlotte, RN and founder of Informed Birth Nurse.

  • Informed Consent in Pregnancy & Birth: What It Is & How To Get It
    2026/02/24

Your doctor just recommended an induction. Your midwife wants to break your water. You weren't expecting it, you have questions — but they're already moving on. 😳

Sound familiar? That's not informed consent. And according to ACOG (American College of Obstetricians & Gynecologists), it's not okay.

In this episode, we're breaking down exactly what informed consent is (and what it isn't), what your provider is legally and ethically required to discuss with you, and the exact questions you can use to slow things down and get the information you actually need.

    In this episode:

🔹 Why signing a consent form does NOT mean you've given informed consent

🔹 The 5 things ACOG requires your provider to cover before any procedure or intervention

🔹 Real hospital scenarios — what rushed, coercive consent looks like vs. what it's supposed to look like

🔹 Why over 65% of nurses and doulas report witnessing lack of informed consent regularly (yes, really)

🔹 The 5 questions to ask at your next appointment — plus what to say when your provider seems annoyed

🔹 What to do in an emergency vs. when you actually have more time than you think

Whether you're planning a natural birth or an epidural, whether you're low-risk or high-risk — informed consent applies to every pregnant person, at every appointment. This episode gives you the foundation you need to advocate for yourself before you ever set foot in a labor and delivery unit.
