  • #22: Climbing Mount Kilimanjaro for a Cause
    2024/04/04

To learn more, you can view our GoFundMe Page here: https://gofund.me/ca80221f

When my 18-year-old son Brian died in a car accident in 2013, a part of me died that night. However, a new part of me was born. A part of me to achieve great things in life that my son Brian would no longer have the chance to do. My son, Kevin, has felt much the same way as me since his brother died. We have spoken extensively about wanting to challenge ourselves physically and mentally. Furthermore, I wanted to do something beyond my everyday life as a neurosurgeon. We were searching for a challenge that seemed impossible to us. Climbing the nearly 20,000 feet below-freezing, snow-covered peaks of Mount Kilimanjaro was what we landed on.

Then, I met Daniel Frazier. Here is someone who survived a really high fall from a roof. He suffered a traumatic brain injury and a spine injury. For the last 2 years, while recovering from his injuries, Daniel has dreamed about climbing Mount Kilimanjaro. A goal to challenge himself mentally and physically post injury. The day I met him, I knew then that fate had brought us together and we were destined to complete this life challenge together.

With our mission, we hope to inspire others on many different levels to reach for goals and dreams in their own lives that they think are impossible. Furthermore, our goal is to raise money for SameYou and Tanzania Health and Medical Education Foundation (TAHMEF).

    Our apparel: https://doctorhoeflinger.com/
    - Part of all proceeds go towards our Mt Kilimanjaro project fundraiser and BrianMatters - our charity nonprofit.

  • #27: Kian Sadeghi - Preventative Medicine and the Power of DNA
    2024/12/14

In this episode, we spoke with Kian Sadeghi, the 25-year-old founder and CEO of Nucleus Genomics, a company empowering people with data-rich preventative healthcare that starts at the genetic level.

When Kian was just six years old, his 16-year-old cousin died in her sleep of a rare — yet treatable — genetic disease. 15 years later, he set out to build a product that could have saved her life –– and can prevent the millions of deaths caused by genetic diseases each year.

Kian believes we live in an era where medicine is becoming medicine data science. Opening access to more health data for more people gives each of us the power to safeguard our well-being, heal chronic diseases, and participate in our own healthcare.

We hope you enjoy this episode!
