  • Special Episode - Quintessence Exhibition
    2023/10/24

Well guess what #THOB listeners we have included an extra special episode to our line up.

Our co hosts Narelle and Philip are excited to present a special podcast on an exhibition they both were involved in through their Creative Agency Miss Bossy Boots in Melbourne, Australia to celebrate the artists represented by the Agency and the brainchild of the Owner and Founder of MBB Veronica Moore.

The exhibition was called 'Quintessence' which means 'the essence of a thing in its purest form'.

Narelle and Philip decided to present a photographic art work they entitled 'THE HALL OF BOON - A Passage Way to a Gift' and also conduct a live recording of the podcast in the art space along with the image as something a little out of the ordinary.

THE HALL OF BOON PODCAST artwork & live podcast.

A 'Hall' is a passage way, a 'Boon' is a gift and so it makes sense that this audio offering from these two creatives is summed up in this completely stupid sentence!

Our co hosts talk with all the artists involved and do so live during the opening night party, featured artists include:

Philip Boon, Katrina Cleary, Melissa Cowan, Virginia Cummins, Milana De Mina, Heather Dinas, Narelle Hall, Sophie Leuschke, Jesper Nielsen, Garry Moore.

Now we realise that talking about an art exhibition on a podcast is out there but we really wanted to give the listener a different experience.

You can view the artworks involved in the exhibition buy going to www.missbossyboots.com.au or by going their Instagram page at missbossybootsagency

You can also go to this link for more video content: https://www.alternatingcurrentartspace.com/portfolio-item/bebuilder-3263/

Narelle and Philip want to thank especially Veronica, Sophie and Garry for all their help and especially their support over the many years they have both been a part of the MBB family, we love you guys!

  • Season Two Episode Ten - So you want to write a book? - Alison Urquhart
    2023/10/10

This is the final episode for season two and Narelle and Philip were so happy to be welcoming onto the show the scintillating and talented Alison Urquhart to talk about her life in publishing and her most interesting take on life.

Alison Urquhart is a non fiction publisher at Penguin Random House, with many years experience in the field. She was born in England but now resides in Melbourne Australia

Our co hosts could have listened and chatted with Alison forever and we are sure the listeners will feel the same. We hear about her life in London starting out, her time in the music industry briefly and her incredible talents as a speed reader that blew both Narelle and Philip's minds. Alison's love of the famous British author Jilly Cooper, London nightlife in the 1980's, Vivienne Westwood and lots more we also discuss!

This episode is a great listen and a fitting one to round out this season of THE HALL OF BOON.

  • Season Two Episode Nine - 'Influencers, but what are you 'Influencing?'
    2023/10/03

One of our favourite listeners asked us to cover the subject that a lot of people are talking about, at least a lot of people are asking what are they all about 'INFLUENCERS, but what are you influencing?

Our trusty co hosts Narelle and Philip tell you (sort of) all about what an influencer is!

But first they reflect on a subject they discussed way back in this season in episode one, the television show 'And Just Like That'. Narelle is still not completely happy with the outcome of this topical TV series which has the many 'Mid Lifers' talking about the portrayal of the much loved characters of the originally ground breaking show 'Sex & the City' in this new reboot show. Tell us what you thoughts are on this show!

Now back to the actual topic of this episode, 'INFLUENCERS', both the co hosts have seen a lot happen in their industries of fashion and beauty with influencers and are they now the only way that marketing is done in these fashion & beauty arenas!

We talk all about social media and how being influential is not only for the super young and hot, we talk mega, macro, micro, nano influencers but what the hell does that mean!

Advanced Style Influencers and over 50's instagram stars we also cover.

We'd love to hear your take on this intriguing if not controversial subject!

AND TALKING OF INFLUENCERS, 'THE HALL OF BOON' NOW HAS IT'S OWN MERCHANDISE! OUR TEE SHIRTS ARE NOW AVAILABLE TO ORDER THROUGH OUR INSTAGRAM PAGE - @the_hall_of_boon TWO STYLES AVAILABLE NOW 'A PASSAGE WAY TO A GIFT" & '#THOB', CHECK OUT OUR INSTAGRAM FOR MORE INFORMATION.

  • What a Drag! - Brenton Geyer
    2023/09/26

Another special guest is chatting with our co hosts Narelle and Philip. This time it's the incomparable Brenton Geyer talking of his experiences as a drag performer and more!

Brenton Geyer likes to spend hot sunny days in cool dark bars. It is in such places that he has formed his appreciation for the artforms of the demimonde. He likes to surround himself with ringmasters & show ponies, dilettantes & deviants, and pansies & poseurs. Brenton finds inspiration in the madness of life, the quirky and the left-of-field. Despite all of this, he manages to get out bed most mornings with a can-do approach. His philosophy of life is to “listen hard and change fast”.

Named as a Community Legend by LGBTIQ+ radio station JoyFM, Brenton was the perfect person to share his life and lots of stories about his day's as a Drag Queen with our co hosts, a must listen for those of us who remember the 1990's in all of its glory!

Narelle and Philip are great fans of the art of Drag and do love watching 'RuPaul's Drag Race' on tv but they wanted to chat with someone who had lead a life as a drag artist but especially someone who had an alternate opinion on 'Drag Race'.

We hear all about the local Melbourne drag scene back in the 90's and how wild it was, particularly with Brenton's alter ego Stella in the thick of it getting up to much mischief and naughtiness.

The VICTORIAN PRIDE CENTRE spoken about in this episode is located at 79/81 Fitzroy Street St Kilda, VICTORIA and is Australia's first purpose built LGBTQ+Community Hub, it is a modern centre providing meeting space for LGBTQ+ groups, community services and advocacy.

  • Season Two Episode Seven - Add Nothing New into the Environment
    2023/09/19

Narelle and Philip talk about a topic that is very close to both their hearts, being eco friendly and 'Add Nothing New into the Environment'.

Our co hosts have been doing the research and Narelle is furious about the world not doing better with limiting waste meanwhile Philip is very happy to talk about how you can 'do your bit' and not buy new clothing, instead by only buying vintage clothing or letting go of old negative attitudes around 'hand me downs' when you pass a piece of clothing to a friend or a family member.

Philip talks about his luxury vintage business 'The Internationals Vintage' which he owns with his business partner & close friend Sonia Audino, you can see what they do and what it's all about at instagram.com/theinternationalsvintage and instagram.com/theinternationalsvintage_eye and instagram.com/theinternationalsvintage_home

Our hosts talk about 'Swap Days' and recycle markets as well as chat about the amazing eco fashion journalist Clare Press of 'The Wardrobe Crisis' podcast and all that she is bringing to the public about sustainable practices particularly in the fashion industry.

'The Wardrobe Crisis' is a must listen podcast and can be heard anywhere you get your podcasts, Clare Press also has a new book out very soon on September 26th 2023 (in a few weeks) and it's called 'WEAR NEXT, Fashioning the Future'. You can check all of this out at instagram.com/mrspress and instagram.com/thewardrobecrisis

The coffee shop in Collingwood (a Melbourne suburb) Narelle spoke about is called 'INTO Coffee' Zero Waste Cafe and is located at 2A Robert St Collingwood, VIC Australia.

THE HALL OF BOON is a conversation and in no way a professional opinion, the subjects talked about are conversational and in no way meant to be referenced from an expert point of view.
