His alleged associates, including lawyer-turned-mayor Pete Halat, allegedly pointed the finger at Halat's law partner, Circuit Court Judge Vincent Sherry, and his wife, prominent Biloxi city councilwoman Margaret Sherry. On September 14, 1987, a hitman executed the couple in their own home in a cold-blooded double murder ordered from Angola. We'll unpack the Louisiana ties—the web of corruption that protected the Dixie Mafia, the investigation that finally brought down key players like Nix, Halat, and others, and the shocking betrayals that exposed it all.
