It’s gotten so bad that when a seen a negative video about something I like, you tell YouTube to not recommend that channel to me. You can’t celebrate the Fourth of July without discussing Independence Day. The 1996 classic that turns an American holiday into a global one. The movie that stars Will Smith is overshadowed by the performances and character development of the surrounding cast. The film shouldn’t work on paper, but it defy convention – and a small budget – to give us a spectacle that helped curate the 1990’s flirtation with disasters movies on our way to the new century.

Tired of listening to film podcasts that simply say the writing was “lazy”, that it was “oddly paced”, or maybe the movie is garbage because it’s woke? Then you need The Gen-Xer Critic with Steven Vargas, who actually studied film, writing, and acted a bit.
