Owning a law firm is harder than anyone told you it would be.

Mike Morse, Kate Nachazel, and Alexa Levantis sit down with attorneys and firm owners to talk about what the job actually looks like — the wins, the bad hires, the pivots, and the moments that almost broke them. Mike built a 290-person firm with $360M in settlements. Every guest has their own version of that story.

You'll leave each episode with a newfound purpose and the inspiration to keep going, along with practical lessons you can put in place today.

  • He Spent $200 Million on TV Ads. Then He Stopped Cold Turkey | Angel Reyes
    2026/06/04

Angel Reyes has been a plaintiff's attorney for 35 years. His firm has resolved over 70,000 cases and recovered more than $1.3 billion for clients across Texas.

For most of those years, he ran the playbook everyone else ran: TV spots. Billboards. Bus ads.

Over two decades, he spent roughly $200 million on traditional advertising and built a firm that worked. Then in 2019, he walked away from ALL of it. He went all-in on digital, restructuring his marketing around what was measurable.

He started hiring internationally when he couldn't find enough people in Texas willing to do the work… today, 80% of his workforce lives outside the United States. His firm signs between 2,000 and 2,500 new cases a month.

The things we tackled in this episode:

→ Why he pulled $200M in traditional advertising cold turkey

→ How he built a team of 625 international employees across 24 countries

→ What competitor conquest is and why it was controversial

→ Whether there's a ceiling on digital lead generation

→ How distracted driving changed the auto accident business

What stuck with me most is how Angel handles being disliked. He doesn't love it but he doesn't let it stop him either.

Angel, thank you for your candidness and willingness to share your story. This time with you was worth every minute!

  • The $9 Million Verdict Lawyer Who Had to Learn to Let Go | Andrew Pickett
    2026/05/28

Andrew Pickett joined Fireproof in October 2024. The coaching forced him to look at what he was actually doing in his firm versus what he should be doing… His firm nearly doubled in 18 months.

    In our episode, we covered:

→ How Andrew identified the roles he was defaulting to as the firm owner

→ Why core values have to be descriptive, not aspirational

→ What a weekly accountability cadence does to a leadership team's behavior

→ How revenue forecasting gave him the confidence to hire ahead of growth

My major takeaway: the ceiling for most law firm owners is just the hat in their organization they refuse to take off.

Andrew, thank you for sharing your story! Hearing where you started and where you're going is the entire point of what we're building here at Fireproof.

    2026/05/21

D'Angelo Lowe grew up with a single mom, three siblings to help raise, and no professional role models... From a young age, was arrested 17 times for selling drugs.

But after graduating high school while on probation, he looked at everything he'd already survived, and decided he owed it to himself to change.

Ten years into running Lowe Law in one of the most competitive personal injury markets in the country, D'Angelo has grown his firm from four people to sixteen plus. He's built a culture where people from all kinds of backgrounds get a real chance, and where accountability helps them grow.
