  • Visual Sauce: waiting for a train at the bus stop (FEMIFRINGE ARCHIVES)
    2023/08/08

THIS EPISODE IS FROM 2023, BEFORE THE PODCAST BECAME FRINGING AND THRIVING...

On this episode, I am chatting to Visual Sauce's Mwansa Phiri (writer/director) and Yaisa (performer) of waiting for a train at the bus stop which is on at 14:50, 2-27 Aug at Summerhall. This play is already really starting to build momentum. It won the Eclipse Award, Phoebe Waller Bridge's Keep it Fringe Award and it was shortlisted for the LET Award. This darkly comic solo show interweaves spoken word theatre with Zambian oral storytelling traditions and explores coercive control, cultural identity and mental health.

I absolutely loved speaking to Mwansa and Phiri. I found them both so inspiring and fun to talk to, as well as giving really insightful points about coercive relationships and the sensitivity they had to have when exploring dark topics within the rehearsal room.
