They are closely connected, but they are not identical concepts. They work together as two dimensions of the Holy Spirit’s operation in a believer’s life and ministry.
The Anointing — we explained last week that anointing is Empowerment. The anointing primarily speaks of:
- God’s empowerment
- Being set apart for holy purpose
- The Spirit resting upon and within a person
In the Old Testament, kings, priests, and prophets were literally anointed (physically) with oil as a sign that God had chosen and empowered them.
