  • June 8 – Open to Transformation
    2026/06/08

One hundred episodes. One day at a time, one ripple at a time — Pastor Mike and Corey made it to 100, and they're not taking a day off. Today's devotional is about openness to change, and it couldn't land on a more fitting day. Corey reframes the ripple in a way that sticks: it's not just about what needs to change — it's about what needs to be unblocked. Because if something stands between you and another person, it stands between you and God too. Mike ties it to Isaiah 43 — see, I am doing a new thing — and to the simple, revolutionary idea that if you keep your attention fixed on the spiritual and just do what needs to be done in the ordinary way, you'll be amazed at the pace at which your soul has moved. And after the prayer, hear from the friends who've been part of the journey — Paris, Larry C, Steffani, Larry F, and Cristi — sharing what 100 episodes of Daily Ripples has meant to them. This one's worth staying until the end.

The stone for today: Change begins with honesty and grows through willingness. I cannot move forward while holding tightly to what no longer works.

  • June 7 – Hope That Endures
    2026/06/07

99 problems and a day off ain't one. Today Pastor Mike and Corey mark episode 99 with a ripple that connects three things that rarely get put in the same sentence: desires, perseverance, and hope. Mike opens up about a sermon series he's launching today on the book of Romans, and lands on Romans 5:4-5 — perseverance produces character, and character produces hope. Which means hope isn't a starting point. It's what you arrive at after you've kept showing up long enough that God has had time to form something in you. Corey ties it to the seventh step prayer — My Creator — and page 62's line that the alcoholic is an extreme example of self-will run riot, though he usually doesn't think so. That last part, he says, is probably the most important part. Also: Corey's Big Book notes may be coming to dailyripples.com soon. Stay tuned.

The stone for today: Desires are not wrong, but when they control me, they lead me away from what is good. Clarity comes when I see them honestly and bring them into balance.

  • June 6 – Willing, Not Perfect
    2026/06/06

Progress doesn't require perfection. It requires showing up. Today Mike and Corey are back together — and Corey opens with something quietly honest: he hasn't kept a note card in his pocket all week, because things have been going pretty well. And that right there is the trap. When everything's bad, he's watching himself. When everything's good, he gets a little relaxed. Mike ties it to Philippians 1:6 — he who began a good work in you will carry it on to completion. Which means the harvest isn't actually your responsibility. Your job is to keep sowing. The completion is God's. And for anyone who tends toward manic control of outcomes — which, if you're listening to this podcast, might be you — that is genuinely good news.

The stone for today: Progress does not require perfection. It requires willingness. Growth happens when I keep showing up, even when change is slow.

  • June 5 – Open to God's Will
    2026/06/05

Resistance is a funny thing. It doesn't always look like defiance — sometimes it just looks like showing up with the wrong printout. Today Pastor Mike, Corey, and Kevin close out Kevin's first run on the podcast by digging into what it actually means to stop insisting on your own way. Mike traces it all the way back to March 13, 2013 — the day he stopped drinking — and how he never would have admitted he needed help if God hadn't worked through the people around him first. Kevin unpacks what the third step actually sounds like for guys who don't believe in God yet. And Corey lands on Proverbs 3:5 — trust in the Lord with all your heart, and do not lean on your own understanding. His own understanding, he admits, is all he's got so far. He hopes there's more. Also: Mike teased a post-pod Easter egg at the very start of this episode. He was not wrong. Stay tuned after the prayer.

The stone for today: Growth reaches a turning point when I stop insisting on my own way. Readiness begins when I admit that my best efforts are not enough.

  • June 4 – Ready for Change
    2026/06/04

Awareness isn't enough. Kevin found that out the hard way — five years in the program, still holding back, still thinking he could manage it on his own. Then he went back out. Today Corey and Kevin dig into what it actually means to be willing, not just aware — and why changing the external circumstances never works as long as the internal point of view stays the same. Corey lands on a line that stuck from a meeting: everything you're learning in this program is just what your mother tried to tell you when you were little. And then catches himself, remembering Kevin's story. It's one of those moments that reminds you why this program works best when it's honest and human. Also: Corey's take on who makes the easiest sponsees might surprise you.

The stone for today: Change requires more than awareness. It requires willingness. I may see what needs to go, but freedom comes when I am ready to release it.

  • June 3 – Learning to Let Go
    2026/06/03

Larry's opening advice? Watch Frozen and learn to sing that song. He's not wrong. Today Pastor Mike is joined by Larry and a surprise guest — the aforementioned Aaron Dennis, fellow United Methodist pastor and the friend whose toddler inspired yesterday's walking analogy. Three pastors around the table, and every one of them has had to learn the hard way that control is a crutch. Aaron opens up about the striving cycle — negative self-talk, an unattainable ideal, escaping reality instead of trusting God's direction. Larry shares something he's quietly walking through right now. And Mike traces his own leadership style from authoritarian to discerning — before recovery, it was his way or the highway. Not anymore. Aaron gets the last word, and it's just this: let it go.

The stone for today: Control can feel safe, but it often limits growth. Freedom begins when I release my grip and trust something greater than myself.

  • June 2 – Walking the Path
    2026/06/02

You don't need to see the whole journey. You just need to see the next point of light. Today Pastor Mike and Larry are back together, and they land on one of the most comforting images in the episode — a toddler learning to walk, not by being called toward someone, but by feeling two steady fingers behind them as they take each step. That's what trust in God actually feels like most of the time. Not a clear view of the destination, but a steady hand from behind. Larry shares the moment that picture came alive for him personally. Mike traces it through his own seminary story — applying the day of the deadline, getting in, and then a scholarship appearing a few months later as the next pinprick of light confirming he was on the right track. The more lessons rain down, the more blessings you see. That's the math.

The stone for today: Growth is not theoretical. It requires movement. A path only becomes real when I begin to walk it.

  • June 1 – A New Way of Seeing
    2026/06/01

You can't think your way into a new way of acting. You have to act your way into a new way of thinking. Today Pastor Mike welcomes back his pastor friend Larry for a conversation about what it actually means to have your mind renewed — and it turns out it's less about changing what's in your head and more about what's in your heart. Larry lands on a line worth sitting with: prayer is surrender, and it's not much of a conversation if only one of us is talking. Mike gets honest about his own biggest perspective shift — when something about another person annoys him, it's usually a character defect of his own amplified back at him like a mirror. Two pastors in recovery, seeing things differently than they used to. That's the ripple.

The stone for today: Change begins within. When my outlook shifts, everything else starts to follow. A renewed perspective leads to a renewed life.
