概要
Pastor Matt delivered an energetic message on Acts 1-2, tracing the birth of the church through four movements: preparation, power, proclamation, and response. He began by describing how 120 disciples waited in unity and prayer in the upper room after Jesus' ascension, following His command in Acts 1:8 to wait for the Holy Spirit's power before becoming witnesses.
The dramatic arrival of the Holy Spirit on Pentecost came with supernatural signs - a sound like rushing wind and divided tongues of fire resting on each disciple. Pastor Matt explained that Pentecost was a major Jewish festival celebrating God's provision, with people gathered from many nations. The disciples began speaking in other languages, proclaiming God's mighty works to crowds who were amazed that these "Galilean rednecks" could speak their native tongues. This supernatural display got everyone's attention, setting up Peter's powerful sermon.
Peter's first Christian sermon masterfully connected Old Testament prophecies to current events, centering everything on Jesus' life, death, and resurrection. When the crowd was "cut to the heart," Peter called them to "repent and be baptized" for forgiveness of sins and to receive the Holy Spirit. The response was overwhelming - 3,000 people were added to the church that day, creating a new community devoted to teaching, fellowship, breaking bread, prayer, generosity, unity, worship, and daily mission.
