We’re talking about Joseph in the Christmas Story today!
Mary was betrothed to Joseph when he became aware that she was with child. What does it mean to be betrothed? What type of man was Joseph?
Joseph's actions in the Christmas story were telling of his character. Joseph is called “son of David” in the book of Matthew. Joseph is from the lineage of David, and part of Isaiah's prophecy to bring Jesus here: “Immanuel, God with us”, to save us from our sins. Joseph plays an important role! He’s a part of something bigger than himself.
In this episode:
- Joseph learning of Mary being with child and his plan of action
- How the Angel of the Lord came to Joseph in a dream, and what he shared
- The arrival in Bethlehem and the birth of Jesus in a manger
Dreams: What do we know about dreams in the Bible? Find out some facts about dreams.
How can we learn from Joseph’s character amidst non-traditional situations? Do we know that we, too, are part of something bigger than ourselves?
Ponder point: “Doing hard things.” Do we get a message from God and act immediately or do we pause? “Do not be afraid” is a common theme. When have we been afraid to do something?
We find some similarities in the stories of Mary and Joseph in this episode. Tune in to hear a lively discussion about Joseph’s experience in the Christmas story.
