Have you ever felt stuck in something you can’t seem to change?
In John 5, Jesus walks into a place full of brokenness and meets a man who had been in the same condition for 38 years. When Jesus approaches him, He asks a surprising question: “Do you want to get well?”
Sometimes we spend our lives asking God to change our circumstances, while God is trying to change something inside of us. The miracle at Bethesda shows us that what we’ve tried to fix on our own—what we’ve tried to heal through our own strength—Jesus can heal.
The signs in John’s Gospel all point to something greater: Jesus is the Lamb of God, the source of grace, and the Living Water who can bring life where we feel stuck, broken, or paralyzed.
