This week we talk to Lisa Loveless who currently serves as Henry County Recorder and is now a candidate for the open seat of Henry County Treasurer. Learn about what the Treasurer's office does, how they invest county money and the importance of paying your property taxes on time. We are also joined by Jonathan Madison, Henry County GOP chairman. What is a county chair responsible for? How many wings of the Republican party are there? How recruiting candidates works, and how do they make sure that appropriate candidates are on the ballot? The primary also selects delegates to the State Convention. Republicans have two contested delegate races. The winner of that race will be selecting their candidates for Secretary of State, which will be the “top of the ticket” race this fall in Indiana. Late in the program, we get into some fun personality questions, a Kentucky Derby preview, Talladega was full of headlines, and the Indy Mini Marathon is coming up this weekend. They discuss their vision for the road operations of the Sheriff Department, hopes to increase headcount, and have an in depth conversation about the use of high speed pursuits, as a recent one has been blamed for county insurance costs increasing. Deep discussions around jail operations, and the influence the Sheriff can have on the headcount and inmates getting to justice quicker. How much money is the county paying to have someone in jail, vs having them on home detention? Recent news has surrounded medical care and inmate care, deep discussion about the policies that are in place, and changes candidates would want to make in their term. We talk about the changes each of them wants to make to the Prosecutors office. Lots of discussion about how cases are handled now. Do things take too long to reach a conclusion? Are sentences too weak? How does this office maintain the public's trust as local government officials have been caught abusing their power in Indiana elected offices?
