概要

In the summer of 2005, just outside the town of Lamesa, Texas, I met a man who had been collecting things from the ditch along Garnett Road for thirty-seven years. Not trash. Not bottles. What he gathered was specific: femurs, ribs, and skulls of animals, bleached by the salt and sun. He showed me his barn that night, lined floor to ceiling with skeletons reassembled into shapes that should not exist. He told me they came to him in the dark, whispering where each bone belonged. When he offered to show me one that was still warm, I should have run.
