The Penn State football team secured a linebacker for 2025 earlier this week but the team's roster building efforts are never over. The program is switching into recruiting mode after the conclusion of spring football last week. Penn State recruiting news

We'll start off the show discussing Penn State's addition of Amare Campbell on Tuesday. Sean Fitz wrote a comprehensive breakdown of Campbell's journey from North Carolina to the Nittany Lions and why he was such a quick take for the team.

From there, we'll shift to the latest recruiting news. One of Penn State's top defensive targets, defensive lineman Alex Haskell, will make his college decision on Friday. Reporter Ryan Snyder has put in his pick for where he thinks Haskell will choose, which we'll discuss on today's show.

The team also made the final cutdown for several top targets in the 2026 cycle this week. We'll discuss those names and why the lists don't matter as much as another list Penn State needs to be on for those players.

Finally, we'll end this section of the show by discussing where coaches have visited during the month of May. It's a contact period for the staff, meaning they can go out and visit players across the country and continue the relationship-building efforts to secure talent for the next chapter. Where have they been so far? Snyder and Fitz will outline their stops.

The Penn State Nittany Lions under head coach James Franklin are going for it all this year. The team was on the doorstep of the 2024 College Football National Championship game a few months ago. Now the team is loading up at key positions in the transfer portal this spring. Today on the BWI Live Show, we discuss the team's latest addition, former North Carolina linebacker Amare Campbell. We'll discuss the team's progress in the portal this spring, and its roster now that the team has addressed all of its public-facing needs after spring football.

Penn State lands Campbell in the portal

Penn State head coach James Franklin made it obvious that his team was looking for help in the portal after the Blue-White Game at the end of April.

"As you guys know, we're not a big portal team, but you know, we're going to have to address some issues. So if there is a linebacker out there that wants to come and be a part of our program and play for LBU, the most historic linebacker program in the history of college football, there's an opportunity here to join the room and compete," he said.

Less than a day later, the team set up visits from the top two linebackers in the transfer portal. On Tuesday, Campbell committed to the program shortly after his visit. Today, we'll discuss how he performed at North Carolina, his fit with Penn State, and his addition to the team's outlook for the upcoming season.

Finally, we'll look at the complete portal picture, including transfers out of the program this offseason.

Penn State game wreckers

The team has made it clear that it won't settle until it feels like its weaknesses are addressed, but what about its strengths? How many "game wreckers" does Penn State have on its roster? We're bringing this discussion from the BWI Message board to the show. We'll discuss how many bona fide threats the team has on offense and defense, and discuss which players could make that leap this year.

Penn State has a new initiative to raise money for scholarships

On Monday, Penn State unveiled a new initiative to raise money for the program. Reporter Nate Bauer detailed the new initiative, which includes putting your name on the seats in the Lasch Building auditorium.

New to the program, the Nittany Lions’ football excellence fund is opening the opportunity to fans this summer to put their names on the chairbacks of the team auditorium at the Lasch Building. Available on a first-come, first-served basis.

Penn State hosted former Rutgers linebacker Mohamed Toure last week, and this week they're hosting linebacker Amare Campbell. We'll discuss what we know about the visits and what's next for the team's pursuit of talent in the spring transfer portal window.

Now that the portal window is closed, we'll also discuss which losses hurt the team heading out the door this year and which are natural attrition for the team's roster management.

Next, we'll discuss the latest additions to the program, which are part of the next recruiting Class. Reporter Sean Fitz gives his thoughts on linebackers Terry Wiggins and Mathieu Lamah, who committed on Friday and Monday. How do they fit into the program, and what does it mean for the team's overall recruiting efforts? We'll get his thoughts on that, and what the two players bring to the table.

It's an incredibly busy end to Penn State Spring football calendar. Not only does the 2025 NFL Draft kick off tonight in Green Bay, but the team concluded its final open media session on Wednesday night. With the Blue-White Game this weekend, the team's visibility on the college football and national radar is high. We're covering all of that today on the BWI Live Recruiting Show.

NCAA Lawsuit conclusion held up by roster limits

We'll start with possibly the most impactful news on the program's upcoming season, which has nothing to do with the team. The House v. NCAA case settlement has hit a major roadblock with judge Claudia Wilken refusing to accept a hard cutoff of walk-on players this year and instead grandfathering players into a gradual limitation of the roster limits over the next several seasons.

We'll discuss what that means for the Penn State roster and the players fighting for a spot on the team this spring and summer.

Next, we'll discuss the team's NFL Draft prospects who will go in the first round of the Draft tonight. We'll take a recruiting angle on the conversation, discussing the value of having two first-round picks: Abdul Carter and Tyler Warren.

Penn State football moved quickly last week, hosting one of the top wide receiver options in the portal on Friday. Former Syracuse wide receiver Trebor Pena joined the program to meet the staff and see how he'd fit with the Lions as one of his first stops in his portal free agency. We'll discuss what we've learned about Pena, his skills, and how he fits into the program.

From there, we'll zoom out and discuss what we've seen in the portal while discussing Penn State's chances of hosting or landing more prospects before the window closes on April 26.

Fitz's Recruiting Update

Penn State was also busy recruiting at the end of last week. Three-star safety Darrell Carey committed to the program. We'll discuss his fit, Fitz's impressions of the prospect, and how he works into the program's overall strategy for 2025.

Of course, the team has two safeties committed and a third athlete who could play the position already. How does that affect Joey O'Brien's place on the roster? Fitz will discuss the news from his visit, which took place on Thursday and Friday.

The Penn State Wrestling team won a national championship less than a month ago but the team's current, former and future wrestlers are already on to the next challenge. On the Penn State Wrestling Show, we preview the US Open, the U20 and U17 Opens. We'll also recap the Class of 2025 recruiting rankings.

Penn State ties at the senior level

Current Nittany Lions are entered in both the U20 (also referred to as the junior division) and the Senior divisions. Starting with a look at the entries for the latter tournament, which helps set the team that competes at the Olympic level, Luke Lilledahl is one of the favorites at 57 kilograms (125.6 pounds). The same can be said for defending NCAA champ Mitchell Mesenbrink at 74 kilograms (163.1). Newcomer Rocco Welsh is the 86 kilogram (189.5 pounds) field. And, Class of 2025 signee Marcus Blaze is in the senior level tournament at 61 kilograms (134.4 pounds).

Penn State alum Beau Bartlett is in the senior tournament at 63 kilograms (143.4 pounds) and could see familiar foe Jesse Mendez of Ohio State in that weight class' final. Other Nittany Lion Wrestling Club members competing in that division include Kyle Dake, who is bumping up two weight classes to 86 kilograms (189.5 pounds), and Kyle Snyder (97 kg/213.8 pounds). And, former Penn State wrestlers Nico Megaludis and Terrell Barraclough will compete at 61 and 74 kilograms, respectively.

Nittany Lion ties in the U20 tournament

A large batch of young Penn State wrestlers will compete in the U20 tournament. The list includes Cole and Connor Mirasola at 92 and 125 kilograms, respectively, Brock Weiss at 70 kilograms, Joe Sealey at 74 kilograms, Nate Demsond at 61 kilograms, Dalton Perry at 65 kilograms, PJ Duke at 70 kilograms, and William Henckel at 79 kilograms.

One Class of 2026 commit is also in the U20 field. Johnstown Bishop McCort PIAA placer Sam Herring is in the 61 kilograms field.

James set for U17 action

Last but not least on the list of Penn State competitors at the U.S. Open is new Class of 2026 commit Jayden James. He is in the 71 kilogram bracket
