概要

 Luna tells the story of a summer job gone wrong at the Blue Blanket Motel outside Elko, Nevada, in June of 1987. The motel was barely a dot on the map, twenty rooms in a horseshoe around a cracked parking lot. She worked the night shift for three weeks, cleaning rooms and checking in the occasional trucker. Then the woman in Room 9 started leaving notes under the door. Not on paper—on the inside of the lampshades, on the back of the TV cabinet, in the medicine cabinet mirror with a finger. Luna never saw her check in. She never saw her leave. But every night, a new message appeared, written in a substance that smelled faintly of copper and rust. The last note she found said, 'You don't have to stay.' She didn't. But she still wonders who was writing them, and why the motel manager seemed so unsurprised when she quit.
