In the autumn of 2009, Luna spent a night at the Blackbird Motel on the outskirts of Millbrook, Indiana. She was passing through—just a rest stop, she told herself. But the motel had a history, and the woman at the front desk warned her away from Room 12. The room wasn't supposed to exist on the official floor plan. Luna checked in anyway, and what she found there—a half-eaten sandwich, a photograph dated 1972, a repeating pop song from the radio—still makes her believe that some rooms hold their guests longer than a single night. This is a story about a place that forgets to let you leave, about the thin line between a rest stop and a trap. It's about a photograph that showed a woman Luna almost recognized, and a phone that rang from inside the wall. No one dies. But someone might still be there.
